Having had many 2 seat roadsters and all costing much to own and operate, this car is a welcome exception. I have never been particularly fond of this car's styling but that is easily overlooked in light of it's other qualities. The 1800cc engine won't pitch the car sideways when you sidestep the clutch BUT it does offer very good real-world performance and acceleration. I drive MUCH harder/faster than most and I consider 25-27 MPG at 80-90 MPH road speeds excellent fuel economy. Although the seats don't have the same "Anything you want" adjustability of the old Celica Supra (which I have a set of and was prepared to install in this car but decided they were un-necessary), the stock seats are surprisingly comfortable on long trips and hold you firmly in place through fast corners. If you have long legs, getting into the car is what you would expect but the interior is surprisingly roomy and comfortable once seated as well. The top operates and seals better than any other I've ever owned and the electrically defrosted glass rear window is an unexpected luxury for this type of car. The only disadvantage is that you don't have room for a lot of cargo so packing carefully is important. It's a great car for the money in it's stock form but there are plenty of performance aftermarket drivetrain, suspension, and body parts available as well. (The 2ZZ engine and 6 speed transaxle used in the Lotus Elise is an easy swap and the few parts needed for the conversion are all available for purchase).

I brought this car spring 2007 and traded it in for a 2008 Ford Mustang GT in summer 2009. I regret it. MR2 Spyder, while not the best looking car on the road is a real driver's car. Everything you want in the roadster is there, the clutch is awesome, smooth and very responsive shifting, no under or over steer. I made 90 degree turns up to 70MPH and the car did not lean and I had full control, something you cannot do with a Mustang or most sports cars these days, no sliding it was awesome. The only problem I had with was the storage, not enough of it but it was worth it. I am looking to buy another MR2 Spyder.

The MR2 is a driver's car, a sportscar or an oversized go-kart. Take your choice of metaphor. Storage is minimal which is why I suspect the model is discontinued. The Mk1 was carefully designed to carry a set of golf clubs, but the Spyder can manage just a couple of small carry-on bags. Engine power is adequate but nothing like the BMW Z3. However get this car on a winding road and watch any Z3 or Z4 disappear in the rear view mirror. Brakes are fierce and awe inspiring; nothing is going to out-brake you. Modest power, superb handling and braking make this a very safe car to drive. Crash avoidance is where this car shines in your daily commute.

The stock vehicle is eye catching! Though not a power monger, the mid-engine MR2 handles curves without sweating. If you are a person that likes modifying cars, this one can be easily retrofitted with a turbocharger, suspension, brake, and wheel upgrades at an affordable price that will make this car compete with some of the $100,000 plus exotics out there! An awesome ride that is easy on the wallet!

I call my car the "common mans Porche!!". I love it, and you can't beat the gas milage!! People always give the car a double take because they can't believe it's a Toyota!
