Sport looking body-style
First of all the body-style is underrated , it's a real sport hatchback . Second it's really lightweight and whatever you drive , from 1.4 to TDI and VR6 , the mk3 will not disappoint you with it's snappy character . Maybe the only thing which disappoint with the body of mk3 is that become rusty if you not take care of them.

Best car in Winter Conditions
The car started right up in -20F weather, and manuvered its way through the snow while others were spinning and sliding. The heat warms up in 2 minutes and it handles well in slippery and snowy conditions. It's good on gas, I average 25mpg in the city and on long road trips around 34mpg. I love the bucket seats and the versatility of this small hatchback. The 5 speed stick shifts with percession and accuracy, and it has that mechanical feeling that's missing in Japanese and American cars.

1995 VW Golf TDi
I purchased my 95 Golf TDi back in 2/05 with 184 k (abt 114 k mi). It's a 1.9L inline 4 cylinder with only 90 HP but respectable 149 lbs/torque. It's a 5 speed manual. It is capable of speeds in excess of 110 MPH but I usually don't go faster than 90 MPH. It handles reasonably well and the 5 speed is fun to drive. I took it on a road trip to Florida during which I drove over 8200 km (over 5000 mi) and it was surprisingly comfortable even for long stretches of road (I drove 22 hrs straight at one point) It's a good car in the city but can serve its purpose on long trips for 4 adults with no problems. The fuel consumption is fantastic. I average between 35 - 44 MPG depending on driving style, highway-to-city ratio and season (summer, winter). The most I've driven on a tankful (less than 14.5 Gal) was 970 km (abt 603 miles) which is pretty cool. Some of the other TDi's get even better gas mileage but I'm satisfied with mine too. My model is basic with not many features. It lacks ABS, any airbags, no power windows, no AC but I do have an 8 speaker stereo. It requires special skills to drive especially on wet surface but that's how I like it, I feel more connected with the vehicle and more in control because more is dependent on me. It's very easy to maintain and very dependable. Nothing major has given away and even after 245 k (152 k mi) it still has a lot of life left. The engine is responsive and when you're upshifting hard, you can really feel the extra torque as opposed to the gas alternative. 90 horses is not a whole lot to begin with but the before mentioned torque makes driving bearable even with a full cargo on board. The exterior is a distinctive trademark of VW and so is the interior. The dashboard is spartan and an all black interior [except roof upholstery (light grey) and seats (navy blue with multi colour patterns)] seems too rough and unwelcoming. Otherwise, the layout of controls is ergonomic. Everything is simple and easy to use. I see this car as an ideal vehicle for students that are on fixed allowance, small families with 1-2 children or great as a second family car. Longetivity and economy of diesel can be hardly beat so if you're contemplating about buying one, don't wait, just buy one, you'll be glad you did!

Its the only car I have ever owned
Other than the occasional maintainance problems, the 95 VW Golf has been a trooper. Though various Gallops through the snow, we have found that the Golf is a very adapable car. The Golf rides nice durring the summer, and on par durring the winter. Though the Golf is a little underpowered in today's tuner car fight, it still runs a respectable time on the track.
