They Tried

While Volvo has an excellent reputation — mainly for amazing safety and engineering. I wanted an all electric vehicle and after a year of test driving and study determined it was perhaps too soon in the industries evolution. (To not spend $100,000!) I was excited to learn of the recharge and waited for an XC60. From the beginning there were issues. Computer issues that meant my car beeped for a day and a half because the cameras went wonky. Required a visit (40 miles). A couple other computer issues arose early and were mostly over until yesterday when nothing happened. Not a single flicker of a light on the dash. Can’t even get the hatch open. Moving away from technology; the air-conditioned seats are nice yet wimpy compared to other manufacturers. The ‘infotainment’ center is clumsy and complicated to use — especially when NOT parked! The cover for the hatchback stays in place well after a prayer but only on the third Tuesday. Simple thing that just doesn’t work! Lastly — just getting an appointment at the dealer is a waiting game. Getting a tow from the company required several phone calls and was later than promised.

Flawed but pretty

Had the XC60 Recharge for 2 months and 3000 miles. It’s beautifully finished and a great looking car. The concept is excellent but the execution is appalling. After leaving the car at the airport for 5 days the 12v battery was completely discharged. Had to call Volvo to be rescued. The dealership blamed the operating system software which tried to do an update and discharged the vehicle whilst locked. The primary display has the annoying habit of regularly corrupting itself, needing a restart. The climate control has issues and the camera system is unreliable. I had three Jeeps before this without a single issue. If this unreliability continues I will be selling it on unless the issues qualify for Lemon Law help. Very very disappointed.

Unsatisfied Volvo Customer

Bought an XC60 Recharge and paid over MSRP. Nothing but problems and horrendous service. The latest is a supposed recall on the inability for the heat to work. Its December in the Northeast so this is not good. Perhaps this car is best for only California and Florida residents. The parts are on back order so its 3 weeks. Pick another brand if you want a hybrid. I guarantee this will be the last Volvo I ever own.

Enjoyable and Practical

Absolutely an enjoyable car with smooth electric drive, seamless transition to gas as needed, and addictive one-pedal regenerative brake driving. 36 miles all electric is more than enough for most local driving. PHEV means no range anxiety. Google based infotainment is okay. Probably not the best but Apple Carplay is available now with OTA update.

User error in reviews here

I just want to correct some of the errors in other reviews: 1) It is not true that the XC60 cruise control only adjusts in 5 mph increments. A quick click is 5 mph increment. Holding it down is a 1 mile increment. 2) The XC60 does currently support carplay Otherwise, the 2022 recharge is a good option. The drivetrain is super smooth. the seats are comfy and the fit and finish is top notch. The ride is stiff and the interior, nice as it is, is starting to get a bit dated. I'm happy with the vehicle and would buy it again. However, I do think there are other vehicles out there that are very competitive with the XC60. Honestly, if I were to do it again, I might go all electric.

Extended range is the way to go.

We bought a 2022 XC60 Inspiration Plug In Hybrid Extended Range three weeks ago and took it on an 1100 mile road trip. Extremely comfortable, a little more road/engine noise than I expected but plenty of power when needed. I do not like the lack of defeating the adaptive cruise control. The car is so smooth you don't notice you are slowing down when coming upon the car ahead. The cruise control speed increment/decrement is in 5 MPH increments. If you want to increase the speed 2 MPH, you have to accelerate and reset the cruise control. Google maps/ Speed Limit monitoring is off. It stated 70 in a 25 and 45 in a 70, but the actual map and directions were spot on. We went 42.8 miles in "Pure" heading from Vermont to Connecticut which was a surprise. Gas mileage in Hybrid mode was 29.7 MPG. Visibility was good, as was the handling in windy conditions. The one pedal driving is nice in town and the dynamic braking saves the brakes and does help extend the Pure mode. We had a 2014 XC60, loved it and this 2022 is better.

Better to check other vehicles.

I bought Volvo XC60 plug in hybrid R design 2022 last month. Overall design is great. Comfort level is outstanding, which someone said it’s like in living room. However, we are expecting very fundamental aspects from car; reliability, which is unfortunately far below expectation. During this 1 month and half, I had flat tires x2 with regular drive. Also, light alarm and engine alarm popped up. Engine alarm ended up with replacing modules. I wasted 3 hrsx2 for flat tire, and 6hrs plus overnight deposit for module issue. Also, customer text service is not helpful. It says it answers “general” questions, but only answers I got were check with retailer. I am just wondering where the money got lost with such a crap??

Great SUV, But!

Beautiful SUV, comfortable with great performance, but very limited range. Infotainment system has a terrible human interface, awkward to use, detracts from to XC60's safety features. Also, very limited Bluetooth media player and no Apple CarPlay.
