Used Subaru Forester for sale near Garden City, NY under $40,000

I didn’t end up dealing with them but they were quick to respond my inquiries about the vehicle I was interested on. They even let me know to NOT come to my appointment when my car went under a “pending” offer which saved me the trip. Unlike other dealers that I experience during my search that were even posting fake adds to good to be true just to get ones attention and then the old: -sorry we sold it- but not until I was already there wasting precious time. I’ve owned this car for about 18 months. It has I bought it new and it now has about 17,000 miles on it. I love driving it. The safety features are excellent! The performance is good. I’m getting around 32 MPG for all around driving. I have the car maintained at the dealership and haven’t had any mechanical issues. I would definitely recommend this car.

Our experience at Liberty Subaru was, from start to finish, quite fine. Our sales consultant, John Clarke was excellent, indeed. He provided thorough explanations of the various features of our new Forester. Thorough, clear and patient--never rushed or pushy. He didn't just explain the car's features; he took us to the car itself and demonstrated some of these features. For example, the connection to the navigation system. This was reassuring, given all the new technology in the 2025 Forester. It is clear that he is very knowledgeable about the car and because of that knowledge, seems to genuinely like it. A lot! He has an even and warm personality. It was such a pleasure to have him introduce us to our new car!

This is my third Subaru Forrester. I like the newer safety features and ease of handling. The size is perfect for me, not too small or too big! I would recommend if you’re looking for a midsize vehicle.

I purchased the 2023 Wilderness trim in August and I chose it because I live in a very snowy and mountainous area. I certainly needed an upgrade from my trusty 2wd, low-clearance hatchback. I can watch the season change with more peace of mind with its high clearance, AWD and features like Starlink and X-mode ready to step in when called upon. I’m a huge fan of the vehicle’s exterior styling and the interior feels luxurious and durable. The cabin is well-insulated from engine and road noise. One drawback is that the sound system lacks depth even with the base turned all the way up (I don’t have the Harmon Kardon stereo option). I’ve never owned a car with a sunroof before and I love letting in extra daylight and looking up at the cliffs and trees during stops so I can’t imagine life without it, now. Even the low beam headlights provide clear-as-day visibility on the darkest nights, but I’d be worried about blinding other drivers so I’d give more follow distance. Many reviewers seem dissatisfied with its acceleration, but it hasn’t felt underpowered to me and I drive a Chevy Suburban for work. It feels like I’m barely touching the accelerator to cruise up steep grades, but I’m a leisurely driver so my expectations differ. :)

I got the 2025 Subaru Forester Touring. I stayed with Subaru because I loved my 2017 Touring. I'm familiar with the layout. Hybrid was not available, but I heard the battery cuts into the cargo space.

Excellent maintenance and service. Professional and speedy service even if you wait in the very comfortable waiting room with coffee, tea, etc. very pleasant wait time.

Great value! The ride is so smooth and the Forester holds the road really well on turns and curves. I got the base model and it still had great safety and comfort features. Very happy!

I had to make a 5 1/2 hour drive recently and loved how smoothly my car drove, especially using cruise control with “eyesight” so it slowed when I was too close to the car in front of me. I couldn’t even feel it; I watched the speedometer. Love the safety features and extras like seat warmers and large sunroof.

What an amazing dealership!!!! We recently purchased a new 2025 Tulluride from this dealership and could not be happier with the overall experience. From the moment we walked in to the dealership we were greeted by the manager, Karim with a warm welcome and smiling face. It just got better from there..... Our sales consultant, Johann was the best!!!!! He helped us choose the perfect vehicle based on our package needs ( i.e: vehicle equipment) and explained in detail the features of the vehicle and how to use them. Once we settled on the perfect vehicle for us, we were given an honest and totally transparent out the door cost of the vehicle. Everything was itemized and provided to us upfront without guesswork. LOVE this car, maybe a little biased since this is my 5th Forester, my 2nd Wilderness. My first Wilderness was totaled in a head-on collision when a young driver spilled coffee and veered into my lane and struck me head-on. That was my 1st Subaru Forester Wilderness and IT SAVED MY LIFE. Full curtain all-around airbag deployment with a roll, the Wilderness coming to rest on it's right side, me still strapped into seatbelt, and the Subaru automatic crash notification with a live person on the speakers asking me if I was ok and needed 911! Smoke still coming from the airbag deployments, and there is a live person coming over the speakers asking me if I'm ok. It was surreal. SUBARU FORESTER WILDERNESS SAVED MY LIFE! TYVM Subaru! LOVE this car! Gets 25+ MPG with conservative driving, a great ride and suspension, superior traction in mud and snow, load-out practically anything/rack bikes (or whatever on the roof racks), sleep in the back with ample room, superior rear-gate lift mechanism with memory, seats super-comfortable and easily adjustable, solid rear-seat leg-room, easy rear-seat fold-downs for massive cargo area that takes my full HVAC tool load-out for servicing ice baths all over the NorthEast US. A great value, especially CPO with +10K mileage (vs. new) MONEY WELL SPENT! SUBARU FOR LIFE

Great value considering the superior safety features, low maintenance and reliability. Rear wheel bearings have been replaced twice and just had the AC compressor and serpentine belt replaced. Albeit expensive repairs, all cars need something after the first 3 years. It's been 8 years and the car still run and drives like new.

I've had my 2025 Subaru Forester for a little less than a month. Pros: Smooth ride, comfortable seats, good sight lines out the windows, spare tire. Cons: Cost of extras already installed that I didn't want, duplicate control options for some items .

Had my car serviced at Westbury Toyota earlier this week and it was fabulous. Mike is an awesome guy, he had me in & out in about an hour.

Next to top rating in Consumer Reports. Lives up to its rating 100%. Only concerns thus far, after three weeks of use. 1) takes time to learn use of various electrical and mechanical controls -- after 20+plus years of VW Jetta ownership, "a lot is different." Just have to be patient learning all the new features. 2) Auto-safety features (staying in lanes, braking distance warning, etc.) are helpful to some less-attentive drivers but annoying to this long-experienced user. Fortunately, they can be turned off and stop the chirping.

The entire transaction went very smoothly. They didn't try to change the deal on arrival. They scheduled the appointment and managed a timely transaction. The car was just as described.

Likes: spacious interior despite modest exterior dimensions, easy to maneuver, great visibility all around, comfortable ride, good traction, handling, and braking, nice interior finish on sport model, strong steering responsive headlights yet they don't blind opposing traffic, very good optional Harmon sound system, numerous effective safety features, low insurance premiums, adequate acceleration..a few cons: actual economy slightly under EPA estimates, seat may be a bit too firm for some but easy to address by adding a thin seat cushion, mandatory sunroof on all but the base model..I wish Subaru would just make that a single option..rough engine start-stop ..however I disable it each time I start engine so it can be a non issue...no reliability issues yet but since this has a cvt and fairly complex safety features, long term reliability is unknown..

I recently had my car stolen and totaled. I actually work for the dealership and enjoy the work I do with the company. Mr krohn has been helping me out for the past month and a half with a car. It has been difficult but with the patience and time he has given my mom and I, I could not be more grateful for him! He worked with my mom and I till the very end and has been nothing but helpful. I ended up getting a 2019 subaru forester. Lots of room and a perfect vehicle into the middle of my adult life. I hope this car lasts me through the next few years. Vehicle was sold before I was able to speak to a sales person. No problem! They were working on it before I inquired about it.

The Forester is the first SUV I ever owned. It has had a few issues, but the dealership, Kenny Ross in Irwin Pa, has always been top notch in customer service. First issue was the orignal tires went bald after only 10,000 miles. I called Kenny Ross and they said they would contact corporate. Got 4 new tires at no charge. Next issue I did not even know I had. Took it in for an oil change and they tell me I need a new CVT. Didn't know I had a problem. No charge again. Last issue was a radio that kept giving an error message and would not work. Took four visits to isolate the problem, but now have a new radio that brings in more stations. Again for free. Highly recommend the bumper to bumper warranty. Money well spent.

Only problem. They praise. My car too low. If they raise my car appraisal. I will make a deal.

I was between a rock and a hard place after my Honda passed away-it drove itself to its demise due to the handbrake not on tight enough. So I had nothing to trade, no leverage. I know Subarus owned many Outbacks and they go forever. The problem is I'm 5' tall and this car is too big for me after the Honda and a Miata I have. I had 2 big dogs and felt the car would be great for a dog owner. Which it is. One dog rode on the back seat (covered) the other had the back to herself. Great for a dog owner. If you need a crate there's plenty of room. This would be a great vehicle for a children or pet family. I only have one 10 yr old dog left and this uses too much gas for me to consider a practical vehicle.

I have a 2020 Forester with 19000 miles. I love it, especially as a tall and aging man. It it easy to drive, easy to get in and get out. Miles per gallon is great, typically well over 30 mpg in day to day city driving. I have noticed a number of complaints about batteries. I think in 2019-2020 they had a bad supplier of batteries. My experience was total battery failure at about 10000 miles. I had to purchase a replacement from AAA. Such stories were common during that period. I was irritated but received reimbursement even though it is not typical for a dealer/car company to do so. Smart dealers want to keep your business. The only other expenses were created by potholes knocking the car out of allignment and nails in parking lots puncturing the same tire twice! Sweep your xxxx parking lots retailers and restaurants.

I am in love with my new Subaru Crosstrek. I love this excellent Sun Blaze Pearl color. I went in for the red color, but after seeing this! I loved it. Juan C. was acknowledgeable and didn't pressure me into any decisions. He professionally helped me. I recommend this Dealership to anyone. This is my first Subaru and I’m so impressed! Just a great drive! I love the safety and convenience features…but I also just love to drive again!!!

They kept us there wayyy too long. But ultimately they were nice and we got a good car at a good price.

My only complaints are, it could use a little more power and a little less road noise. Otherwise, I'm very pleased with my Subaru Forester Touring.

Bought a 22 Touring, the car is great, (I traded a 2019 RAV4 XSE hybrid, forester is just better built and a better quality vehicle by far). Pros: comfortable, safe, plenty of legroom and headroom for all, I have tall friends (6’4”/6’2”) and all have enough room), great visibility, things are where they need to be and where it makes sense, sound system is good and the eyesight system is a lot better than the Toyota system, also the ride quality is superior. Cons: lacks a few small things that should be there on a 2022 vehicle such as interior light auto shut off, if you leve your interior lights on by mistake these won’t auto shut off, it doesn’t have a wireless cell charger, or wireless apple play connection, also it should have a fast charger (USB-c).

My wife just replaced her Honda CR-V EXL with a new 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness. We absolutely love it! While the styling is a bit "boxy" for some, the functionality and outward visibility is top tier. And the Wilderness trim level has a substantially rugged appearance. The interior fit and finish is excellent. The standard AWD is a big plus. We opted for the Harmon Karden sound system package and the sound quality is incredible. We are now a two Subaru family as my ride is a 2020 Ascent.

Engin and Jakub were terrific. They really listened to me and worked really hard to make me as deal that I just couldn?t refuse. I really appreciate their efforts to keep me in the Subaru family.
