I purchased a Certified 2013 BMW X3 28i from a reputable dealership in Cleveland, OH; it had about 47,000miles on it. It has a nice peppy engine for a 2.0L, and 30 mph on the highway was achievable with conservative driving. A very comfortable, stylish interior, we had the winter package, and the lighting package was fabulous. My wife loved driving it, but it was an unfortunate money pit. Our problems started at about 60k miles when we were informed that the oil lines to the turbo had decayed and needed replacement to the tune of $1,500. "Just happens with this model year", said the dealer. At 70k miles the transmission failed, $2800 rebuild. Another issue that "just happens with the 2013 model", said the mechanic at a shop specializing in German vehicles. At 95k miles the struts rusted through, and some other miscellaneous diagnostic issues for engine warning lights and failed rear parking sensors for $3200. Finally at 105k miles the turbo failed, $5200. Unless you are willing to spend a great deal of money on unexpected drivetrain and misc issues, avoid the 2013 model year.

Our vehicle was very well maintained, always getting what it needed when it needed it. Our mechanic even said it was nice to see someone who took great care of there vehicle. Our engine just after 184000KM is done. left my wife sitting on a mountain rd in Nova scotia. No warning . Not impressed.

The engine blew while driving smoothly on the freeway . I went in for a very first oil change was told I had a leak. Went Bmw mechanic replaced the parts. It’s was still leaking stooped on the freeway .
