(upbeat music) Hi, I'm Joe Wiesenfelder with Cars.com. We give you an overview of the 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid in a separate video.
Now we're gonna concentrate on the back seat, the cargo area, the, the lift gate, basically how the design here makes it more versatile. Well, this is one of the areas where it pays for them to design the car to be a hybrid from the start. It gives me pretty good leg room. There's no big hump in the middle. My knees are a little bit higher, but not quite as strange and stretched out as I was in the front seat. Headroom is okay. I'm six feet tall and just about touching here. Not as good headroom as you're gonna get in the Fit, the Fit's actually quite high, or even the Civic Hybrid. But this is the seat in my driving position, which it was all the way back. Not bad at all. And another one of the good things about this being a hatchback, and again, being built specifically as a hybrid, is the seats fold. Now, among SUV's, hybrid SUV's may have folding seats, but so far, no hybrid car sedan, as opposed to hatchback, has had folding seats. It's good to have. Now, the view from the profile, a lot of people say it looks like a Prius. It's understandable. That's partly because this is an aerodynamic shape. You're gonna see a lot of that. So, the cargo area is also pretty big. It's not quite as big as a Honda Fit, but definitely better than the Civic Hybrid, again, because the Civic Hybrid seats don't fall down. Got a little extra space down in here, too. That's not bad. Now, the other reason people think this looks like a Prius is you've got this extra window under the cross-member here. People know that from the Prius. But in reality, it started out on the Honda CRX, and then on the Insight, the original Insight, which was a two-seater, many years ago. It was actually the first hybrid in the US in 2000. Now it has some advantages. Now, obviously, if this were the only window you'd have a hard time seeing down here, so they put this one here. That's how important this shape is, that they decided they would have to put this thing in here similar to the Prius. Because the seats have head restraints that collapse down into them, it actually improves the view back here, better than if they're up. Obviously, that one was left up. So, as you can see, there are certain advantages to building a car from scratch as a hybrid. Rear view is a little bit better. Flexibility in folding seats, down cargo, that kind of thing.
