(upbeat music) <v Announcer>Cars.com auto review. Hi, I'm Patrick Olsen, suburban dad for cars.com. We're at the 2009 LA auto show and we're looking at the Mazda 2. Now the Mazda 2 is new to this country and it's a little bit of a mystery for us.
While we can look at the car, we can look through the windows, we can't sit in it and we don't know any of the performance or mileage aspects. But here's some of the things we can tell you, if you're thinking about a new car for your teenager, the Mazda 2 could be a good choice. It matches up against the Toyota Yaris and the Honda FIT, and of course, against the brand new Ford Fiesta. Now the Fiesta promises 40 miles per gallon and it remains to be seen if the Mazda 2 will get anywhere near that because of it's zoom-zoom heritage. One of the few things we do know about the Mazda 2 is that it has a 1.5 liter engine that comes with either a five speed manual transmission or a four speed automatic. Now if your kid wants the zoom-zoom aspect, you probably wanna stick with the manual transmission. While the automaker promises zoom-zoom with the Mazda 2, its performance and its mileage remain as much of a mystery as what's in this can. <v Announcer>For more car related news, go to cars.com or our blog, kickingtires.net
