GMC introduced the all-electric Sierra EV for 2024, and for 2025, it was available in fully loaded Denali trim. For 2026, the base Elevation and off-road-ready AT4 models join the lineup, and we have the AT4 here.
What do you get with the AT4 model? A whole lot of utility and capability. Compared to other Sierra EVs, the AT4 model gets a 2-inch suspension lift, 35-inch all-terrain tires mounted to 18-inch rims, red tow hooks, and an illuminated GMC badge. In addition, it also gets four-wheel steering with GMC's CrabWalk feature that allows all four wheels to be turned in the same direction, up to a 10-degree angle, so the truck can move diagonally like a crab. On the capability front, the Sierra EV has two electric motors, one on each axle for standard four-wheel drive. AT4 buyers can choose between two battery packs: Extended and Max Range. AT4 Extended Range models make 625 horsepower and 775 pounds-feet of torque. This truck has the Max Range pack. Total output jumps to 725 horsepower and 775 pounds-feet of torque. And despite the fact that the truck weighs between a hefty 8,000 to 9,000 pounds, depending on equipment, it doesn't feel that heavy. In fact, it's fast off the line. Power is brisk and smooth, but I haven't towed with it, and it can tow up to 12,300 pounds, depending on equipment. What's more, it's more maneuverable than you'd think, too. The four-wheel steering helps this behemoth truck feel much smaller than it actually is during tight turns. It's also capable when it comes to range and charge times; AT4 electric range spans between 410 and 478 miles, depending on battery pack. With its available 800-volt architecture capable of DC fast charging at up to 350 kilowatts, the Sierra EV can add a hundred miles of range in as little as 10 minutes. And in terms of capability, a couple of features stand out, like this available MultiPro MidGate expandable bed that offers room to carry items up to 11 feet long while still having space for a rear-seat passenger. Pop the rear seats down to expose the back wall of the cab, then use a button to open a passageway from the cabin to the bed, handy for hauling longer stuff. There's also a standard power-opening frunk for more storage and the MultiPro tailgate, which can expand to hold loads of different sizes or can be used as steps to get into the bed. The Sierra EV also offers a different type of utility: the powering-things kind, with its available 10.2-kilowatt Energy Transfer Pro offboard power system, which turns the truck into a mobile power station. Its battery powers the 240- and 120-volt outlets in the bed, handy for charging power tools or whatever other equipment might need power. There are a couple of downsides to this truck, however. The first is that not everyone will love this infotainment screen, which comprises a giant, slick-looking 16.8-inch vertical touchscreen and the Google built-in operating system. As in many other new GM vehicles, most functions are controlled within this screen, and some of them can be pinned for quick access to the lower portion of the screen. Under that are physical controls, and both are easy to use. The problem is what's missing: Android Auto and Apple CarPlay phone projection are not available, and that might be a deal-breaker for some people. Second, installing a forward-facing car seat is difficult due to the AT4 model's fixed head restraints and its buried top tether anchors, which are behind the seatback, making access really tricky. Lastly, the AT4 model can get expensive. The 2026 Sierra EV starts at around $65,000, but that's for the smaller standard battery pack, which should get you around 280 miles of range. The AT4 model starts much higher, at around $81,000 for the Extended Range pack and around $92,000 for the Max Pack.
