10 Biggest News Stories of the Week: Ford Maverick Goes Up, Genesis GV80 Gets Good

Since kicking the door down for 2022, the Ford Maverick has made a big impact despite the compact pickup truck’s diminutive size. Not for nothin’, it won Cars.com’s Best of 2022 award overall and, subsequently, Best Pickup Truck of 2023, among other accolades. But the real praise came after a year of real-world ownership — the only way to really know how good the Mav really was — as part of our fleet of long-term test vehicles, at which point we still loved it. We might even be willing to pay more for one … and, in fact, we’d have to now, as the price for the 2025 Maverick has gone up.

In one of Cars.com’s most popular news articles of the past week, we cover pricing changes for the 2025 model year — which, for what it’s worth, also brings exterior styling updates, all-wheel-drive availability with the hybrid powertrain, and other expanded offerings. In exchange for more and new content, the base XL trim rises by around $2,500 to a starting price of $27,990, with the XLT, Lobo and Lariat trim levels rising incrementally before hitting just shy of 42 grand for the range-topping Tremor (all prices include a destination charge).

If it’s a mid-size luxury SUV you seek over a small-but-mighty pickup, check out our eighth-place finisher, a rapid-fire roundup of the pros and cons of the updated-for-2025 Genesis GV80. The GV80 impressed our reviewers with its adequately powered twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine mated to a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission; excellent new 27-inch LED display complementing an overall upgraded occupant experience; vivid, responsive, user-friendly infotainment system featuring welcome physical controls; elegant, well-mannered ride and handling; and delight in the details where luxury really lies, like high-grade materials and cleverly designed convenience features. A couple of criticisms, though, are the added cost for previously standard features, as well as a glitchy start for its introduction of wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
