Audi parent automaker Volkswagen is recalling more than 18,800 of the luxury brand’s E-Tron, E-Tron Sportback and Q8 e-Tron electric SUVs over an issue with the brakes. The new recall expands on a previous safety directive from August 2024.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2019-23 E-Trons, model-year 2020-23 E-Tron Sportbacks and model-year 2024 Q8 e-Trons. The fastener that connects the brake pedal and brake booster may not have been properly assembled during manufacturing, which may cause the pedal and booster to detach from one another. This increases the risk of both a loss of brake function and a crash.
To resolve the issue, dealers will inspect and tighten the pushrod screw joint of the brake booster, as necessary, for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 12, but those with further questions in the meantime can contact Audi at 800-253-2834 (its number for this recall is 46P7), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
