Yep, another diesel-powered model bites the dust. Last week we told you about Volkswagen suspending a number of its diesel models, and now DaimlerChrysler is halting production of the diesel Jeep Liberty compact SUV.
As with the VWs, the Liberty’s current engine won’t meet stringent new U.S. emission rules. The Liberty sold 5,000 more units than expected in 2005, mostly due to the high price of regular gasoline. But the company still couldn’t warrant the costs of a new engine for limited sales. Jeep diesel fans will have to wait for the full-size Grand Cherokee CRD in early 2007.
