2007 Jeep Compass Review Preview

One of the crews that deliver our test vehicles just pulled up in a nice and shiny black 2007 Jeep Compass. For the next week I’ll be putting it through its paces on the highway, around town, filling it with cargo. You get the idea. But today, I just had to go to the dry cleaners. Here’s a a little preview of what my review will say:

My first impression was that the black color made the Compass far more attractive than any of the drab olive and brown hues that I’ve seen at auto shows and manufacturer events. The funky front lip isn’t as noticeable in black, although the turn signals on the front do seem to float awkwardly. I also thought the combination of the black with the tan cloth interior was perfect.

Driving a CVT transmission always throws me off at first. A CVT doesn’t shift like a normal automatic, it just has a steady climb in the revs. It’s a bizarre feeling but by the time I drove back from the dry cleaners it didn’t bother me anymore. So far, and this is two hours into a week-long test, I’m more impressed by the Compass than I thought I would be. That’s why it’s vital to live with a test vehicle for more than one afternoon.
