The Year in Cars: April 2007
Oops. We had a few days where updating this series was impossible. Sorry about that. We’re back and catching back up with the year that was 2007. In April we hit another auto show, this time in NYC.
- The New York Auto Show is intriguing, if not as memorable as Detroit. Highlights include the new Subaru Impreza, Subaru WRX sedan and hatchback, small GM concepts, Jeep Liberty, 2009 Ford Flex and others. The winners and losers aren’t a surprise.
- The Great Car Faceoff concludes after much debate.
- BMW debuts the new M3 online DURING the New York Auto Show. No, it’s not on the show floor. Curses.
- Lexus tops the $100K mark with its hybrid LS600h. Sounds too expensive to sell, but Ari Gold driving one on Entourage turns it into a new type of status symbol.
- Luxury SUVs get the Cars.com Faceoff Treatment while we add an index page for all Faceoffs.
- China gets a very stately Buick Park Avenue. They’ll be able to drive that. They won’t be able to drive the wild-looking Riviera concept. But they get the first look at it, as well as at BMW’s CS Concept.
- Illinois gets its first hydrogen pump. Volkswagon works on a 200 mpg car and Chrysler is making hybrid Hemis. This green thing may be catching on.
- Government intervention makes us safer. Stability control will be standard by 2012. Then the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety releases its list of the deadliest vehicles.
- The Urban Dink is still shopping for a new car.
