GM Launches Free iPhone and Andriod Apps

Two apps from GM will be available. The first one, called myChevrolet (or myBuick, myCadillac, etc.), lets you search the owner’s manual by scanning the car’s vehicle identification number with the phone’s camera. You can also find a parking spot — so long as your phone has GPS — and track how much time is left on your parking meter. You also can add photos and details about the parking spot to share with others.

The app can also inform you about specific warning indicators if they’re lit. You can request roadside assistance or find the nearest GM dealership to schedule service.

We’ve written about the OnStar app, called OnStar MyLink, in an earlier post. This app allows you to unlock your car remotely, start the engine, activate the alarm and check your tire pressure as well as other diagnostic systems. OnStar MyLink will require a service plan, which starts at $18.95 a month.
