Kia is recalling more than 21,200 examples of its EV9 electric three-row SUV over an issue with the occupant detection system, which may not deactivate the airbag when a child is seated.
Related: More Recall News
Affected vehicles include model-year 2025-26 EV9s. The occupant detection system in the vehicles may have been improperly routed and may not deactivate the airbag when a child or child seat is in the front passenger seat, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
To resolve the issue, dealers will inspect and replace the ODC mat and bladder tube and ensure they are routed properly, as necessary, for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 20, but those with further questions can contact Kia at 800-333-4542 (Kia’s number for this recall is SC379), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
