2012 Volvo Lineup: Ch-Ch-Changes

For the 2012 model year, Volvo has discontinued the S40 and V50, which reported in an earlier post. The Swedish automaker is also no longer offering any V-8s across its lineup after the company axed its sole V-8 engine in the XC90 for 2012. V-8s were once offered in the S80 and XC90.

Overall, most models get more standard features and new trim offerings while maintaining similar prices to last year’s models.

2012 C30

Both trims now have standard Bluetooth connectivity, a rear center fixed armrest and a security system.

The T5 and T5 R-Design are offered in new trim packages:

• Premier Plus: includes a power glass sunroof, power driver’s seat, power passenger seats, LED daytime running lights and aluminum inlays
• Platinum: includes everything on Premier Plus as well as an upgraded stereo, navigation system and satellite radio
• The Multimedia and Preferred packages are no longer available

The 2012 C30 starts at $24,700, which is the same price as the 2011 model.

2012 C70

Bluetooth is now standard across the lineup. The C70 will get new trim levels, too:

• Premier Plus: includes a passive entry system, HomeLink, rear park assist and integrated compass and auto-dimming rearview mirror
• Platinum: includes everything on Premier Plus as well as an upgraded stereo and navigation system
• The Multimedia and Convenience packages are no more

The 2012 C70 starts at $39,950, which is the same price as last year. The 2012 model is already on sale.

2012 S60

We outlined the 2012 S60 updates earlier this year. They include a more affordable base model.  There’s also a new R-Design trim, which we first saw at the 2011 New York auto show.

The 2012 S60 starts at $30,975, which is $6,725 less than the 2011 model, due to the addition of the new T5 trim. The 2012 S60 is already on sale and widely available at Volvo dealerships.

2012 S80

We outlined S80 changes before. They include adding more safety and convenience features, as well as some appearance upgrades.

The 2012 S80 starts at $37,500, which is $350 more than the 2011 model.

2012 XC60

The base XC60 3.2 is now offered with wood inlays on the steering wheel and dashboard. There are new trim levels for both the 3.2 and T6 all-wheel-drive trims:

• Premier Plus: adds a power tailgate with programmable memory settings, front and rear park assist, 12-volt power outlet in cargo area, grocery bag holder, cargo cover, compass integrated into rearview mirror, power folding rear head restraints, HomeLink remote garage door opener, and a passive entry system
• Platinum: includes everything from Premier Plus and an upgraded stereo, navigation system and backup camera
• Multimedia, Convenience and Premium packages are no longer offered

The 3.2 R-Design has been discounted for 2012. The XC60 also gets a new T6 R-Design trimmed model, which we outlined earlier.

2012 XC60 starts at $32,900, which is the same as the 2011 model. The model is already on sale.

2012 XC70

We’ve already outlined the XC70 changes. Major additions include standard safety features, such as City Safety, and convenience features.

The 2012 XC70 starts at $32,550, which is $400 more than the 2011 model.

2012 XC90

All models now come with standard Bluetooth. The 3.2 R-Design trim now gets standard 20-inch alloy wheels and dual xenon headlights with articulating lenses. The XC90 V-8 — which came with a Yamaha-sourced 311-horsepower eight-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive — has been discontinued.

The 3.2 and 3.2 R-Design trims get rebranded package offerings:

• Premier Plus: includes grocery bag holder, integrated compass in rearview mirror, HomeLink integrated garage door opener
• Platinum: includes everything in Premier Plus and an upgraded stereo, navigation system and a backup camera

The 2012 XC90 starts at $38,400, the same as the 2011 model. It is already on sale.
