2014 Acura MDX: Explaining the Trim Levels

The redesigned MDX, Acura’s three-row crossover SUV, went on sale in June, and so far the introductory prices have remained unchanged.

The new MDX comes in one well-equipped price level with three available option packages — Technology, Technology and Entertainment, and Advance and Entertainment — that effectively serve as trim levels.

It is a unique tiering strategy and can be confusing. However, there are few options available pertaining to these new models. You pick one of these four packages and that’s about all the customizing you can do outside of paint and interior colors.

All are available with all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. The front-drive option is new for 2014, as all previous versions came with AWD.

All prices include an $895 destination charge.

Base Price Acura 3.5L MDX 4×2: $43,185
Base Price Acura 3.5L MDX 4×4: $45,185

Basics: All SUV models come with a 290-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine that has direct injection and cylinder deactivation, and a six-speed automatic transmission. Seven seats with a third row also are standard.

Interior & Tech: Leather heated power front seats add luxury touches, and an 8-inch touch-screen and 7-inch display operated by a controller cover most audio, climate control and other standard equipment functions, leaving just nine dashboard buttons.

Miscellaneous: LED headlights, a power moonroof, keyless entry, cruise control, power liftgate and a backup camera are among standard features.

Options: No individual options or packages are offered on the base MDX.

Interior & Tech: The Technology Package adds a voice-operated navigation system, a 10-speaker surround sound audio system, blind spot monitor, forward collision warning and lane departure warning.

Miscellaneous: Nineteen-inch wheels

Options: No individual options are available with the Technology Package.

Interior & Tech: This “trim” includes a rear DVD player with a 9-inch screen and heated rear seats on top of what the Technology Package features.

Interior & Tech: The all-new Advance Package gives the rear DVD player a 16.2-inch screen that can show videos from two sources and adds Milano leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigating braking with a head-up display and lane keeping assist to take this luxury SUV to the next level.

Options: No individual options are available with the Advance Entertainment Package.
