2018 Kia Rio: More Features, Less Price
CARS.COM — Kia updated its Rio subcompact sedan and hatchback for 2018; it’s now a little bigger than its predecessor, wears facelifted styling and uses revised powertrains. What’s more, it’s cheaper than the outgoing model: When the subcompact goes on sale in the fall, sedan models will start at $14,795 and hatchbacks at $15,095, including destination. Model-year 2017 Rio sedans start $15,060, including destination.

The base price is for the LX model. S sedans start at $16,995 and hatchbacks at $17,295. Topline EX trim sedans start at $19,295 and hatchbacks at $19,595. All models use last year’s 130-horsepower, 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission; Kia says it’s tweaked the engine to improve efficiency and low-speed response. Newly available tech upgrades for 2018 include the 7-inch UVO touchscreen multimedia system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, as well as an automatic emergency braking system.
The new Rio is slightly more expensive than the base 2017 Ford Fiesta sedan, which starts at $14,535, and is less than the 2017 Hyundai Accent ($15,630) and 2018 Honda Fit ($17,065); all prices include destination. The 2018 Kia Rio hits dealerships in early October.
