2019 Nissan Pathfinder Rocks New Value Edition

Nissan has detailed the new Rock Creek Edition package of extras for its 2019 Pathfinder three-row SUV that dresses it up in black and adds features for a value price. It says the $995 package price is a savings of $1,315 from ordering similar features off the a la carte menu.

The package, which goes on sale in the spring, is available on the midrange SV and SL trim levels but not on the base S or top-end Platinum trims. Setting off the exterior is a list of blacked-out trim, including a black mesh grille and black roof rails, door handles, side mirrors, fender cladding, badges, and front and rear bumper trim. It also gets special dark 18-inch wheels. Inside, the model gets a new two-tone upholstery, metallic-look trim and contrast stitching on the seats, doors, console lid and steering wheel.
Also part of the package is a tow hitch and harness, as well as splash guards, to take advantage of the Pathfinder’s tow rating of up to 6,000 pounds.
“The Rock Creek Edition name was chosen to connect to [the] Pathfinder’s family outdoor adventure-minded target customers,” said Scott Shirley, Nissan marketing vice president. (Rugged-sounding name, though probably the most prominent Rock Creek is the National Park Service’s urban park and roadway that cuts through the middle of Washington, D.C.)
The Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition also offers additional upgrade packages for the SV and SL versions. A $980 SV Rock Creek Edition Technology Package adds the NissanConnect multimedia system with navigation, satellite radio and heated cloth front seats, steering wheel and side mirrors. The $2,110 SL Rock Creek Edition Premium Package adds 13-speaker Bose premium audio and a panoramic moonroof.

Both SV and SL models are powered by the Pathfinder’s standard 284-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 with a continuously variable automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive. Automatic emergency front braking and a rear-door safety alert for the rear seat also are standard, and a 360-degree camera and power liftgate with memory function are available.
The 2019 Pathfinder SV with front-wheel drive starts at $35,315, including a $1,045 destination charge; the SL starts at $38,965. All-wheel drive adds $1,690 to either one.
