2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Video: What’s Inside Counts

Alfa Romeo has updated a host of things, most of them technology related, in the Giulia, a sedan whose current generation actually is pretty good. It placed second out of seven luxury sports sedans when we compared a whole crew of them a few years back. We took a look at what’s changed when we got up close to the Giulia at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show.

Styling tweaks are fairly minimal, and the chassis and powertrain essentially carry over, Alfa Romeo says, culminating in the 505 horsepower Giulia Quadrifoglio.

The big changes are inside, and they start with the multimedia system. If you were annoyed by the old system — either a 6.5-inch or 8.8-inch display, neither of which actually functioned as a touchscreen — we don’t blame you. You probably weren’t the only ones. Those systems have now been replaced by a standard 8.8-inch touchscreen with faster processing and the ability to display three sections of material, as opposed to just one section before, and show things like the map on the full size of the screen, as opposed to this hemmed-in display previously. We also observed that Apple CarPlay can work across the entire unit. And there’s a redundant knob down at armrest level if you really just want to use that instead of the touchscreen.

Speaking of armrest: There’s more storage now. There’s a wireless charger that’s kind of tucked into the armrest for your smartphone. There’s also a new bin ahead of the cupholders, and a little bin to the right of the gear selector. Those kind of amend one of the things we really didn’t like about the old Giulia, which was its lack of open storage space accessible to the driver.

Check out the video below for the rest of my thoughts about the updated 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia.
