2020 Corvette Convertible: C8 Droptop Drops in October
We’ve known a convertible version of the 2020 mid-engine C8 Chevrolet Corvette was coming for a while. Now we know when: Chevrolet confirmed in a tweet today that the C8 droptop will be rolled out on Oct. 2, with debut details to come.

It was all but inevitable, considering there has never been a Corvette without a convertible model. And until the split-window coupe in 1963 there was no fixed hardtop variant. Chevrolet even teased us with an image of a coming Corvette droptop in the video below that accompanied the C8 coupe’s debut in August.
And unless weight and regular track days are an issue, isn’t this the Corvette to have? The removable, Porsche-esque “Targa top” roof panel in the coupe is nice and easy enough to wrestle with — but simply pressing a switch to let in the sun is a whole lot more civilized. If the configuration of the panels behind the seats and head restraints remains close to the teaser, however, it looks likely that this time the convertible top will be folding metal, not cloth.
The only downside we can see is that — as with the 2020 Ferrari F8 Spider unveiled Monday — it appears from the teaser that you lose the coupe’s view of the engine through the rear glass thanks to the top mechanism.
