Vehicles Affected: Model-year 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 and GLE450 luxury SUVs in two separate recalls, approximately 11 in one and 750 in the other
The Problem: For the recall of 11 SUVs, in the event of a crash while the temperature in the passenger cabin is high, the passenger frontal airbag deployment may be delayed or the airbag may not completely deploy, increasing the risk of an injury.
For the recall of approximately 750, a welding error during production may have resulted in a small hole in the floor, possibly allowing water to leak into the passenger cabin, potentially affecting the vehicle’s electrical systems and increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
The Fix: For the recall of 11, dealers will replace the passenger airbag module for free.
For the recall of 750, dealers will seal the affected area for free.
What Owners Should Do: Mercedes-Benz will begin notifying owners of both recalls Aug. 13. Owners can call the automaker at 800-367-6372, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
