Which should you buy, 2019 or 2020? 2019, especially if you were hoping to find a Rogue Hybrid. The 2020 model has no significant benefits over the previous year and will cost more overall. You’re also likely to find steep discounts on any remaining 2019 models.

The Rogue is Nissan’s best-selling vehicle and one of its most important models. It’s part of a six-SUV lineup for the brand that includes the smaller Kicks and Rogue Sport, along with the larger Murano, Pathfinder and Armada.

The Rogue is moderately priced, starting at $26,395 (all prices include destination) for the base S trim with standard front-wheel drive. Optional all-wheel drive adds $1,350 to each trim’s price tag. The range tops out with the AWD SL trim, which lands at $34,135.

With the decision to remove the hybrid powertrain for the 2020 model year, only one powertrain is available for the entire Rogue line: A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower and 175 pounds-feet of torque.

Nissan’s most important model packs more standard safety equipment than the rest of its competition and still achieves solid fuel economy ratings despite dropping the hybrid. FWD Rogue models are EPA-rated at 26/33/29 mpg city/highway/combined, and AWD models land at 25/32/27 mpg.

Nissan added forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, lane departure alerts and lane keep assist to every Rogue model in 2019. The company has added to that for 2020, as the SV and SL trims now get the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of advanced safety equipment. The package includes pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, lane departure warnings, radar-based blind spot warnings, rear cross-traffic alerts and high beam assist.
