Nissan updated its half-ton pickup truck, the Titan, for the 2020 model year with some big changes you can’t see without opening the hood or getting underneath, as well as some mild visual changes and small but significant interior updates.

Changes under the skin are substantial. The only engine is Nissan’s Endurance 5.6-liter V-8, but output is now 400 horsepower and 413 pounds-feet of torque — up 10 horsepower and 19 pounds-feet, respectively, from the 2019 model. The engine pairs with a new nine-speed automatic transmission (previous models had a seven-speed auto) developed by Nissan affiliate JATCO. The EPA has not yet published fuel-economy estimates as of this writing, so any gains in that regard are still unknown.
The subtle exterior changes involve new headlights and taillights, plus a grille and bumpers, with a focus on differentiation among the various trim levels. Inside, interior quality is markedly better: Nissan swapped the Titan’s clunky old 7-inch infotainment system with a modern system displayed on either an 8- or 9-inch touchscreen (Nissan dubs the latter its Integrated Command Center).
Standard safety features round out the Titan’s technology suite, with all models getting Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 as standard equipment. The suite of technologies includes both forward and reverse automatic emergency braking — the former including pedestrian detection, the latter a class-exclusive feature — along with blind spot warning, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert and high-beam assist.
Fuel economy isn’t the only information missing, however. As of this writing, we also don’t yet have pricing information, nor do we have details on the 2020 Titan XD, a heavier-duty version of the truck.
