Like the changing of the seasons, once we see new light-duty pickup trucks make it to market, we know new heavy-duty models are not far behind. And that also includes the medium-duty 4500 and 5500 10-bolt chassis cabs as well. With the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 now on the market, these spy photos reveal that the 2020 Ram heavy-duty truck lineup (medium duty shown) will be getting major changes, especially on the inside. Here's the latest dispatch from our spy shooters.
"Today we got our first look inside the 2020 Ram heavy-duty pickups, which appear to mimic the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 with more stylish designs and premium materials. Technology comes from what we believe to be the Uconnect 4 with an 8.4-inch touchscreen and should offer the optional Uconnect 4C navigation infotainment system with a massive portrait-oriented 12-inch touchscreen center console display. The only obvious difference inside the HD cabin is the steering-column-mounted gear shifter, which the light-duty dropped for the 2019 model year.
"The current Ram HDs are getting long in the tooth, having gone on sale in 2010 and receiving only a minor face-lift in 2014 (lights, grille, updated interior). The new HD chassis cabs are expected to fall in line and ditch the crosshair grille, a hallmark of the truck since the mid-1980s. "Other exterior styling changes should run parallel to the half ton but with a more muscular flare to the front end.
"Current power is delivered by three engines: the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 and the down-rated turbo-diesel 6.7-liter Cummins inline six-cylinder. The V-8s are paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, while the Cummins can be paired to either a six-speed manual or automatic. We fully expect the turbo-diesel to get another power bump in the hopes of one-upping the Ford F-350 Power Stroke and Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Duramax, which currently feature more horsepower and torque.
" is slated to move from Saltillo, Mexico, to Warren, Mich., in 2019 in time for the next-generation HDs' start of production. Expect an official debut sometime in 2019."
