2021 Chevrolet Equinox Video: Not as Aggressive as It Could Be

Chevrolet’s popular small SUV, the Equinox, gets a bunch of visual updates for the 2021 model year. It also gets the RS trim you see on other Chevrolet models to add a little touch of sportiness. It is a bit of a curiosity why Chevy didn’t use this opportunity to make the Equinox look a little more like its small and mid-size SUVs, the Trailblazer and the Blazer, respectively; those have really aggressive styling. Still, we are getting some interesting updates here on the Equinox.

It starts with more chrome. There’s chrome kind of bisecting the headlights now on the Premier trim we saw recently at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show, where the refreshed Equinox … well, premiered. The Premier trim is the top trim level of the Equinox. The premiere also gets a gloss black grille, so does the new RS. Other changes include reformed foglight portals with a little bit more cladding and a reshaped opening at the bottom of the front bumper. Around back, there’s more going on in terms of complexity in the taillights; they look a lot like the taillights now on the Hyundai Santa Fe.

Jumping back to that RS trim, the differences include a gloss black grille; there are 19-inch dark wheels; it’s got black bow ties, including a black bow tie on the steering wheel itself; it’s got some black badging and black side rails; there’s a unique shift knob; and there’s some red stitching on the upholstery inside. Again, like the RS trim levels of a lot of other Chevy models, this is a cosmetic package that adds a little bit of a sportier flair. The Equinox continues to offer a 1.5- or 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The 2.0-liter turbo engine’s actually really, really quick; it’s one of the standout aspects of this vehicle. All of that goes on sale in fall 2020.
