2023 Toyota bZ4X: Automaker Estimates 250-Mile Range

Toyota says its upcoming all-electric 2023 bZ4X SUV will have up to 250 miles of range, according to its own internal estimates. The automaker claims the single-motor, front-wheel drive XLE model will be able to go that far, with (likely lower) figures still to come for other FWD trims and the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version. These are not official EPA estimates, notably, so stay tuned for those.

The front-drive XLE version that will achieve the 250-mile range estimate uses a 71.4-kilowatt-hour battery pack and a single motor to produce just over 200 horsepower. Models with AWD get a second motor and a 72.8-kWh battery pack with a system output of 215 hp. The AWD bZ4X will use Subaru’s X-Mode AWD, as Toyota and Subaru jointly developed the bZ4X and 2023 Subaru Solterra.

Latest Toyota Safety Tech

Toyota says the bZ4X will be the first vehicle in its lineup to get Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, the automaker’s updated suite of advanced driver assistance systems. According to the automaker, the various features are all improved and the pre-collision system can now detect cyclists in low-light situations; the system also adds daytime motorcyclist detection and guardrail detection. It’s also capable of over-the-air updates, according to Toyota, which opens up the possibility of adding additional safety features or capabilities after purchase without visiting a dealership.
