Volkswagen’s all-electric ID.4 SUV is getting some updates for 2024, but most of them are on the more expensive model with the larger battery. Versions of the 2024 ID.4 with the 82-kilowatt-hour battery get more horsepower and range for rear- and all-wheel-drive models, along with other cabin enhancements.

The 2024 ID.4 continues to be available in Standard/Pro, S and S Plus trims with the option of 62- or 82-kWh batteries. A new performance drive unit ups horsepower on 82-kWh models to 282 hp with RWD and 330 hp with AWD — a big increase over the model year 2023’s 201-hp rating with rear drive and 295 hp with AWD. VW said range numbers will also increase but has not yet released estimates.

In addition to more power, 82-kWh-battery versions get another significant upgrade. VW says its updated control interface, a confusing setup we’ve struggled with in the past, gets more intuitive for 2024. The enhanced 12.9-inch display has a revamped infotainment menu and now uses backlit sliders for better readability in the dark. There’s also a new shifter position and revised layout for steering wheel controls.

Additional new features for the larger-battery model include ventilated front-row seats, and S Plus models get a premium Harman Kardon audio system. Standard AWD variants also now come with larger 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, while S Plus trims get 21-inch machined-alloy wheels.

Volkswagen has not yet announced pricing, but it did say the 2024 ID.4 will continue to be manufactured in Tennessee and is still currently eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit.
