The 2026 Audi Q3 Gets Quicker, Bolder and Tech-ier: Review

What Car Shoppers Need to Know

  • The Audi Q3 subcompact SUV is redesigned for 2026, gaining a stronger engine, new technology features and a bit more cargo room.

Luxury-brand subcompact SUVs are popular with shoppers for several reasons. They offer decent interior room within tidy exterior dimensions, making them ideal urban runabouts. They boast the prestige of a luxury-brand badge along with ritzier interiors and more tech features than mainstream-brand subcompact SUVs offer. Most of them are powered by peppy turbocharged four-cylinder engines that deliver more oomph, too.  And, as the smallest vehicles in their respective brands’ SUV lineups, they’re relatively affordable gateways into luxury-car ownership.

The junior member of Audi’s SUV lineup — the Q3 — has been redesigned for 2026, and it’s gotten a proper glow-up in the process. It’s a couple of inches longer overall than the previous-generation model, which makes the rear cargo area a bit more spacious. All-new styling brings the Q3’s looks in line with other new Audis and makes it less of a “cute ute” than before. An infusion of new tech features is highlighted by a new infotainment system, unique steering-column-mounted controls and a literal exterior glow-up — LED headlights with a choice of three daytime-running-light signatures and LED taillights. The SUV also has sequential turn signals and animated welcome-lighting sequences on vehicle startup and shutdown.

I traveled to San Luis Obispo, Calif., at Audi’s invitation to drive the 2026 Audi Q3 and find out how it stacks up. (Per our ethics policy, Cars.com pays for its own airfare and lodging when attending such manufacturer-sponsored events.)

How Does the Audi Q3 Drive?

  • Takeaway: The Q3’s gutsy turbo four-cylinder engine provides satisfyingly zippy acceleration, and its smartly tuned suspension and steering provide a nicely balanced driving experience.

As with the outgoing model, the new Q3 comes with just one drivetrain choice — a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and standard all-wheel drive — but the engine has been updated to make 255 hp and 273 pounds-feet of torque. That’s an upgrade of 27 hp and 22 pounds-feet over the previous engine. Replacing the previous conventional eight-speed automatic transmission is a new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Happily, the engine achieves its impressive output on regular gasoline; premium gas is either recommended or required in the Q3’s European rivals.

Audi claims the new powertrain is capable of 5.5-second 0-60 mph runs, and it felt that quick to me on the preview drive. Though off-the-line acceleration is sometimes non-linear due to a bit of turbo lag and a slight delay in power delivery from the dual-clutch transmission, the Q3 is pleasantly zippy once underway. Switching between the Balanced, Dynamic and Comfort drive modes adjusts drivetrain behavior; Dynamic mode brings the most pronounced change, with the transmission holding lower gears longer for quicker accelerator response and a more aggressive feel.

The turbo four-cylinder has a pleasant growl when pushed, but the engine note doesn’t intrude much into the cabin even at full throttle. Dual-pane acoustic glass for the front side windows comes standard, and that glass must be doing its job as the Q3’s cabin is impressively quiet overall. Wind noise is nicely muted, and on smooth pavement, tire noise is kept to a minimum, too. The tires — at least the optional 20-inch rubber on my test vehicle — make a lot more racket on coarse road surfaces, however.

Those 20-inch rollers also likely contribute to a somewhat jittery feel on rough roads, but the Q3’s ride quality is sufficiently absorbent overall — and going with the standard 18-inch wheels and tires or optional 19s would probably soften things up a tad. Handling is crisp and balanced thanks in no small part to the Q3’s tidy exterior dimensions and nicely tuned steering.

How’s the Audi Q3’s Interior?

  • Takeaway: The Q3’s interior sports a respectably upscale ambiance, a slick new infotainment interface and decent overall space for its class.

The centerpiece of the Q3’s interior is a striking new dashboard with natural wood inlays and a 11.9-inch digital instrument panel and 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen integrated into a single curved panel. The intuitive new infotainment system uses Android Automotive OS and has helpful features like a toolbar on the left side of the screen for quick access to oft-used functions, customizable screen layouts and photorealistic map graphics that can also be displayed in the customizable digital gauge panel. The climate controls are integrated into the bottom of the touchscreen; our editors typically prefer physical buttons and knobs, but these touch controls are responsive and mostly easy to access.

The ‘26 Q3 debuts Audi’s new steering-column-mounted control unit, which replaces traditional gear-selector and turn-signal stalks. Instead, fixed stalks sprout from both sides of the steering column; the right one is the gear selector, and the left one contains the turn-signal, headlight and windshield-wiper controls. After a bit of familiarization, I found the new setup easy to use. The layout is intuitive, and all controls can be reached without the driver taking their hands off the steering wheel.

No subcompact SUV has a cavernous interior, but the Q3 is decently spacious for its class. According to Audi’s measurements, the cargo space behind the backseat ranges from 25 to 29 cubic feet, depending on the position of the standard sliding and reclining rear seats. Fold the rear seatbacks, and Audi says cargo room expands to 50 cubic feet. By factory measurements, rivals like the BMW X1 and Volvo XC40 best the Q3 in terms of maximum cargo volume, but its occupant space is competitive for the class.

I’m 6 feet, 6 inches tall, so, not surprisingly, I don’t fit comfortably in the Q3’s backseat, but average-sized adults should be able to fit OK, especially if the front seats aren’t set far back. I need to have the front seats all the way back and all the way down (and even then, I had limited knee room in the passenger seat), but front-seat headroom is excellent — I had space to spare, and the front seats are comfy and supportive.

The interior ambiance is also appropriately premium, with supple leather upholstery, contrast stitching and those wood dashboard inlays, though I worry that the cloth inserts on the dash and door panels might get worn and/or dirty over time.

Is the 2026 Audi Q3 Worth Its Price?

  • Takeaway: The Q3 gets notably more expensive with its redesign, but that premium is largely justified by the various upgrades, and the Q3’s pricing is still fully competitive with its primary rivals’.

The 2026 Audi Q3 starts at $44,995 (all prices include a $1,295 destination fee). That’s a $3,900 jump from the $41,095 starting price of a similar 2025 Q3 , but factor in the 2026 Q3’s higher engine output, larger dashboard display screens, upgraded infotainment system and significantly higher level of standard equipment, and the extra cost is justified.

The 2026 Q3 lineup is pared down to one trim level with six individual option packages. My fully optioned test vehicle came to $51,790 with lovely Malpelo Blue metallic paint ($595) and a Driver Assistance Package ($1,250) that includes adaptive cruise assist, park assist plus, a 360-degree camera system and a heated steering wheel. The other option groups — a Black Optic Package ($750), Infotainment Package ($1,000; includes satellite radio, Sonos sound system and upgraded USB ports) and Technology Package ($1,400; includes head-up display and OLED taillights) — I could easily live without.

Even in loaded form, however, the Q3’s pricing is in step with similarly equipped class rivals, and it compares favorably with all of them. The 2026 Q3 is available at Audi dealerships now.
