What SUV Shoppers Need to Know

  • The 2027 Audi Q7 and SQ7 get more powerful standard engines.
  • The Q7 is powered by a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6, while the SQ7 gets a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8.
  • Audi is also offering its Digital Matrix LED headlights on the Q7 for the first time in the U.S.

Audi’s three-row family hauler, the Q7, has been a staple in the luxury brand’s lineup for around 20 years now. But with a new, larger three-row Q9 on the horizon, some might think that Audi is either sending the Q7 out to pasture or hanging it out to dry. None of that is the case, as Audi has redesigned the Q7 for 2027, giving it more powerful engines and new tech that’s sure to appeal to luxury buyers needing three rows of family-hauling room.

More Standard Power

Previously, buyers going for Audi’s Q7 SUV could choose between two engines: a standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 261 horsepower or a turbo 3.0-liter V-6 with 335 hp. With the ‘27 Q7, Audi is offering just one engine that’s more powerful than either of those old engines: a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 making 429 hp. Audi says this is enough power to hustle the Q7 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds.

If you want more power and performance to go with that family-hauling capability, the SQ7 has got you covered. While its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 is carried over, power is up 91 hp to a massive 591 hp, enough to get the SQ7 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, according to Audi. Despite the increase in power for the Q7 and SQ7, the maximum tow rating is unchanged at 7,700 pounds.

New and Improved Technology and Features

On the tech side, the big news for the 2027 Q7 is the availability of Digital Matrix LED headlights for the first time in the U.S. Equipped with micro-LED modules and adaptive driving beams, Audi says these headlights deliver exceptional road illumination while simultaneously reducing road glare for other drivers, and both the headlights and taillights offer eight different lighting signatures. Audi has also integrated lighting capability with vehicle features. For instance, when the turn signals are activated at night, a turn signal is also projected onto the ground to alert others that you’ll be making a turn. The 2027 Q7 also features advanced parking-assistance tech such as trained parking, which Audi says allows drivers to teach the Q7 different parking maneuvers.

The interior of the Q7 has been updated, as well. For buyers not needing space for seven, optional second-row captain’s chairs turn the Q7 into a six-seater. There’s also power seat adjustments for all three rows. The center console has been redesigned with dual wireless phone chargers and storage space, and the top trim level features a panoramic moonroof with transparency that can be changed at the touch of a button. And like many other new cars, a massive curved organic light-emitting diode display dominates the Q7’s redesigned dash. Buyers can also opt for a built-in dashcam that can capture 4K video of the road ahead.

On-Sale Date and Pricing

Audi says the 2027 Q7 and SQ7 will go on sale in the fourth quarter of this year. Pricing hasn’t been announced just yet but will be released closer to the on-sale timeframe.
