2027 Kia Telluride Gets Available 35-MPG Hybrid Powertrain
Key Points
- The all-new second-generation Kia Telluride is larger and more luxurious for the 2027 model year.
- Available hybrid powertrain offers 329 horsepower and up to 35 mpg combined.
- X-Pro trim boasts improved off-road capability.
With three spacious rows of seats and available luxury features matching those offered by some of the highest-profile luxury brands, the first-generation Kia Telluride stretched both the definition of a mid-size SUV and shoppers’ perceptions of what a Kia is. Debuting at the 2025 Los Angeles Auto Show, the all-new second-gen Telluride looks to again reset those expectations.

Spacious, Luxurious Interior
- Takeaway: The three-row Telluride gets longer for 2027, with easier access to the third row and more cargo space. It also gets a quieter cabin and more infotainment features.
Kia already gave us a look at the 2027 Telluride’s exterior and interior, but the brand has now released more details on the redesigned SUV. Once again available in seven- and eight-seat configurations, the 2027 Telluride is 2.3 inches longer than its predecessor and sits on a wheelbase that’s been stretched by 2.7 inches. Kia says this translates to more legroom in the second and third rows, and the second-row bench seat has been overhauled to ease access to the back seats. It slides farther forward to allow for more flexibility in how that legroom is apportioned between the middle and back rows and is said to allow a greater variety of child-safety seats to remain in place while passengers climb in and out of the third row.
Echoes of Land Rover in the 2027 Telluride’s styling are reinforced by the Kia’s engineering and its options list. The brand promises a more serene cabin thanks to additional noise insulation, thicker door glass and improved door seals. Heating and ventilation are not only available for the front seats, but also for the optional power-adjustable second-row captain’s chairs. Heated third-row seats are also available.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as dual wireless charging pads, are standard. So, too, is Kia’s Entertainment and Data Services, which allows occupants to stream Disney+, Netflix and YouTube. A dual-screen setup with twin 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen is optional, as is a 14-speaker Meridian sound system with a 10-inch subwoofer.
For all the extra attention lavished on occupants, Kia didn’t forget their stuff. Kia says that cargo volume is nearly identical to the outgoing Telluride’s, with up to 22.3 cubic feet behind the third-row seat, compared to 21 cubes for the first-gen SUV. Fold the third row, and there are 46.3 cubic feet, versus 46 in the outgoing Telluride; with the second row also laid flat, the 2027 Telluride can fit a total of 86.9 cubic feet — just 0.1 cubic foot less than the previous generation.
More Power and Greatly Improved Efficiency
- Takeaway: The 2027 Telluride is available with two turbocharged four-cylinder powertrains, one of which is a hybrid.
In place of the outgoing Telluride’s 3.8-liter V-6 engine, the 2027 model offers buyers a choice of turbocharged four-cylinders. The Telluride’s standard 2.5-liter engine sounds a lot like the one used in the Genesis GV70 and GV80. It generates 274 hp and 311 pounds-feet of torque — the latter figure an improvement of 49 pounds-feet over the old V-6 — and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
New to the Telluride lineup is a hybrid powertrain option. This one we know is a turbocharged 2.5-liter, with electric assist boosting total output to 329 hp and 339 pounds-feet of torque. Backed by a six-speed automatic, the hybrid powertrain delivers up to 35 mpg combined, per Kia’s estimate. That is not only a whopping 13-mpg improvement over the best the outgoing Telluride could muster, but it’s paired with an additional 38 hp. Like the Telluride’s twin, the Hyundai Palisade, the hybrid powertrain will be available with either FWD or AWD.

7 Trim Levels to Choose From
- Takeaway: The Telluride will be available in seven trim levels, and the range-topping X-Pro trim now has 9.1 inches of ground clearance.
Some features will no doubt be limited to pricier trim levels, but buyers of the new Telluride will have plenty to choose from. Kia will offer seven trims:
- LX
- S
- EX
- SX
- SX-Prestige
- X-Line
- X-Pro
Both the X-Line and X-Pro trims feature black wheel arches, lower bumpers, mirror housings, beltline trim and D-pillars, as well as roof rails and distinct mesh grilles. The more capable X-Pro also gets increased ground clearance (9.1 inches, up from 8.4 in the 2025 model), all-terrain tires that are wider than the rubber on other Tellurides, a locking center differential and a limited-slip rear differential. An optional Ground View Monitor uses the exterior cameras to help the driver maneuver off-road, and available Ground Lighting can provide indirect illumination while camping.
Release Date and Pricing
The 2027 Kia Telluride will go on sale in the first quarter of 2026. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
