2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel Combines Off-Road Capability With Stump-Pulling Torque

If you’re into off-roading, you know that one of the most important things to have is lots and lots of torque. Ram is giving off-road enthusiasts torque in spades with the 2027 Ram Power Wagon. A new turbo-diesel 6.7-liter Cummins six-cylinder engine gives the Power Wagon over 1,000 pounds-feet of torque, more than enough to get the truck out of dicey off-road situations.

Semi-Rivaling Torque

If you’re not in the know, the Ram Power Wagon isn’t a new model. It’s been a part of the Ram 2500 lineup for decades; it was first introduced in 1945 and ran through 1980 before returning again in 2005. For the last few years, it’s only been available with one engine: a detuned version of the old 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 that was used in Dodge’s Scat Pack models. The engine was nothing to write off with its 405 hp, but with 429 pounds-feet of torque, some buyers may have wanted more. 

Ram is more than delivering on that front with the 2027 Power Wagon. Buyers can now get the pickup truck with the high-output version of the 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel six-cylinder. It makes 430 hp and a monstrous 1,075 pounds-feet of torque, 646 pounds-feet more than the 6.4-liter gas V-8. All that torque gives the Power Wagon serious towing and hauling capability. Ram says the Power Wagon can tow nearly 20,000 pounds and has a payload capacity of almost 3,000 pounds — almost twice as much towing and payload capacity than the 2026 version. 

An Off-Road Powerhouse

The 2027 Ram Power Wagon looks to be one of the most capable heavy-duty off-road pickups on the market. Only available in a crew-cab configuration with the 6-foot-4-inch bed, you’ll be able to spot the Power Wagon thanks to its distinctive design, including huge “Power Wagon” graphics on the sides of the bed, a sport performance hood, functional wheel-arch extensions and black accents. Underneath it all resides some serious capability. 

Things start with big 34-inch all-terrain tires wrapped around 20-inch wheels, as well as solid front and rear axles along with what Ram says are class-exclusive electronic locking differentials. The suspension is further enhanced with Bilstein monotube shocks and an electronic disconnecting rear sway bar. For those wanting a softer ride, an air suspension with automatic leveling is an option. 

This is all in addition to impressive approach (24.6 degrees) and departure angles (25.5 degrees), 12.6 inches of ground clearance, and extensive underbody protection to shield the fuel and diesel exhaust fluid tanks and transfer case. While fuel economy figures have yet to be released, fill-ups may be few and far between thanks to a 31-gallon fuel tank that Ram says can deliver over 600 miles of driving range.

For those still wanting a bit of old-school flair in their trucks, standard seating is a heated cloth bench, with heated and ventilated leather seats available. There’s a 12-inch infotainment screen running Uconnect 5 (a 14.5-inch display is an option), a suite of driver-assist and towing aids including blind spot monitoring with trailer coverage and pedestrian detection, and a standard nine-speaker Alpine audio system; a 17-speaker Harman Kardon system is available. 

Pricing and Release Date

If you’re interested in the 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel, you’ll have to dig deep in your pockets to get one. Ram says it will go on sale in the second half of 2026 for $88,470.
