As buyers continue to migrate from sedans into SUVs, the luxury market is something of a refuge for traditional definitions of “car.” But Audi has decided that haven is no longer strong enough to support two competing products, and the new mid-size 2025 A5 sedan replaces both its predecessor and its mechanical twin, the A4 (the previously announced 2025 A4 is no longer available to order, according to an Audi spokesperson).

How Much Bigger Is the 2025 A5?
The all-new sedan rides on the Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Combustion, not to be confused with the Premium Platform Electric architecture that underpins the automaker’s electric vehicles, such as the Audi Q6 E-Tron and Porsche Macan EV. With styling that bridges the slab-sided look of the A4 and the outgoing A5’s taut curves, the new car is 2.6 inches longer, 1.6 inches taller, 0.5 inch wider and has a 2.8-inch longer wheelbase than the outgoing A4. There’s also 22.6 cubic feet of cargo volume under the hatchback and 36.6 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, per Audi’s measurements.
Audi also says the new architecture will result in greater steering fidelity than the outgoing A5, with sturdier steering rack mounting and axle designs. As before, a steel spring setup will be standard on both the A5 and the higher-performance S5 — though the latter sits 0.8 inch lower — and an adaptive suspension will be available for the S5.
What Are the A5’s Powertrain Specs?
For 2025, the A5’s standard engine remains a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, but Audi found enough additional output to surpass not only the 2024 model’s base engine, but its high-output version, as well. Generating 268 horsepower and 295 pounds-feet of torque, 2025 A5 betters the 2024 model’s base powertrain by 7 hp and 22 pounds-feet.
The S5 is likewise still powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6. Now putting out 362 hp and 406 pounds-feet of torque, it tops the outgoing model by 13 hp and 37 pounds-feet. Whereas the old A4 and A5 were available with either a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or traditional eight-speed automatic, depending on the engine, the new 2025 A5 uses a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic in all applications. Quattro all-wheel drive is, of course, standard.

What Interior Updates Are There?
Audi’s interior designs age so well that the outgoing A5 doesn’t look outdated even after seven years on the market — until it’s placed alongside the new A5’s. Following the trend in luxury and mass-market vehicles alike, the A5 now sports a fully digitized dashboard that Audi calls Digital Stage. Now neatly integrated into a single curved display rather than the distinct instrument panel and infotainment screen of yore, the Digital Stage consists of an 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster and 14.5-inch touchscreen.
A 10.9-inch passenger display is optional, and a bezel neatly integrates it into the dash to prevent it from looking like an afterthought. There’s also a new available head-up display that provides sharper graphics and is 85% larger than the one in the previous A5. It also integrates more functions, with buttons on the steering wheel and voice recognition powered by artificial intelligence helping drivers to control more vehicle systems without taking their eyes off the road.
High-style tech being a cornerstone of Audi’s self-image, the A5 is available with LED daytime running lights offering eight customizable lighting signatures. Organic light-emitting diode taillights are also available. Audi also offers two different Bang & Olufsen audio systems with up to 20 speakers in the new A5. In the premier setup, four of those speakers are integrated into the front-seat head restraints, allowing the system to localize phone calls and navigation instructions to just the driver’s seat.
