GM announced today that the popular Hummer H3 will get a bump in power thanks to a larger 3.7-liter inline-five-cylinder engine. One of the few complaints many reviewers, including our own Joe Wiesenfelder, had with the 2006 H3 was insufficient oomph. A 10% bump in power brings the horsepower number up to 242, and torque magically hits the same 242 mark as well, up 17 pounds-feet from the 2006 version.
The inline-five-cylinder engines of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups also get a revision and receive similar power boosts, but neither truck has gotten the attention of the H3. There’s no word yet on pricing or if the added power will impact mileage numbers. The 2006 H3 with an automatic transmission is rated at 16 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.
