The speculation we brought you on Monday is now official. DaimlerChrysler has announced it will bring the next generation Smart vehicle to the U.S. in 2008. The company signed a deal with United Auto — a group of 290 dealerships — to sell Smarts. Expect the next generation Smart car to be a bit larger than the current ForTwo pictured here, but to keep the high gas mileage, around 60 mpg on regular. It is slated to arrive in early 2008 while dealerships will roll out the branding and marketing efforts next year.

Is the market ready for Smart? You tell us. Comment below if you’d consider buying one of these mini-machines.
