Affected vehicles include certain model-year 2016-18 BMW 330e sedans, model-year 2018-20 BMW 530e sedans and model-year 2017-19 BMW 740Le sedans. The engine starter relay may corrode, which can cause it to overheat and short-circuit. A short circuit in the starter relay may increase the risk of a fire. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the repair is complete. To resolve the issue, dealers will replace the engine starter for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 28, but those with further questions can contact BMW at 800-525-7417, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
