We announced earlier this month that Cars.com is offsetting all the emissions from the cars we test. Each week we get a handful of cars for review purposes, to shoot video of and to blog about.
Below is a rundown of the first batch of results of our fuel use and how much it would cost a normal consumer to offset each car’s CO2 emissions if it were driven 12,000 miles a year.
2008 Infiniti M35 Sport (review) Total gallons: 20.705 Amount of CO2 emitted: 405.07 pounds Cost to offset for one year: $64.35
2008 Saturn Astra XR (review w/video, Friday Fleet Notes) Total gallons: 7.3 gallons Amount of CO2 emitted: 142.82 pounds Cost to offset for one year: $44.55
2008 BMW M3 sedan (review w/video, Friday Fleet Notes) Total gallons: 19.568 Amount of CO2 emitted: 382.83 pounds Cost to offset for one year: $64.35
2008 Mini Cooper S Clubman (review w/video) Total gallons: 7.368 Amount of CO2 emitted: 144.15 pounds Cost to offset for one year: $49.50
2008 Mini Cooper Clubman (Weekend Athlete) Total gallons: 12.75 Amount of CO2 emitted: 249.44 pounds Cost to offset for one year: $44.55

Total gallons: 95.788 Total CO2: 1874 pounds
That’s nearly one ton of CO2.
