The Detroit Free Press began an eight-part series on Sunday that details how the domestic auto industry, which is based in Michigan, has fallen on such hard times. It’s interesting that most of the stories seem to focus on the very recent events of the past few years.

It looks like future stories will take an in-depth look at the federal government’s involvement in the bailouts of GM and Chrysler, with behind-the-scenes intrigue that we haven’t yet heard about.
