Chevrolet Partners with BraunAbility for Wheelchair-Accessible Traverse SUV
Key Points

- Rear door modified for easier access and includes integrated ramp
- Available in 2026
A minivan with unusual proportions and conspicuous lower bulk is often a confusing sight until you take a look at the badging: BraunAbility. BraunAbility has been modifying vehicles to make them wheelchair accessible since the 1960s. With minivans on the wane, the company is doing what automakers have been doing for a while now: switching to three-row SUVs. And now, the mobility outfitter has released its newest conversion, which is based on the third-generation Chevrolet Traverse that was launched for the 2024 model year.

The new BraunAbility Traverse follows the established template, with a lowered floor, a deployable and illuminated in-floor ramp, and a rear suspension that “kneels,” lowering the vehicle for easier entry. BraunAbility retains the Traverse’s rear-door skin but modifies the structure so that instead of swinging open on a hinge, it effectively slides rearward like a minivan’s door. This creates a wider and — because of the lowered floor — taller opening measuring 31 by 54.5 inches, making it easier to maneuver a wheelchair aboard.
With removable front seats, the BraunAbility Traverse can accommodate a wheelchair user as the driver, front passenger or second-row occupant. Based on the entry-level Traverse LT, it features keyless entry and start, remote start, tri-zone automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel, an 11-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 17.7-inch touchscreen with Google Built-In as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Sport Edition and Midnight Edition, which include black wheels, a black grille, black badging and black exterior trim, are also available; the Midnight Edition also gets black paint.
Release Date and Pricing
The BraunAbility Chevrolet Traverse will be available in 2026 through BraunAbility’s dealer network. Pricing will be announced closer to the start of sales.
