After recalling a population of Super Duty pickup trucks over an inoperable instrument panel in late July, Ford is now recalling 41,500 more trucks over an issue with the left rear axle shaft.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2023 Super Duty F-250 and F-350 trucks equipped with single rear wheels and a 10.5-inch rear axle shaft. The left rear axle shaft in these vehicles may not have properly completed the heat treatment process during manufacturing and could break. A broken rear axle could cause a loss of power while driving or a rollaway when parked, both increasing the risk of a crash.
As a fix, dealers will inspect the rear axle shaft date code and replace the axle shaft, as necessary, for free. Ford will begin notifying owners Oct. 16, but those with further questions can call the automaker at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 23S49), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
