A GM spokesman has confirmed that a new Chevrolet crossover known as the Traverse will go on sale this fall. Although he didn’t name a price, internet rumors have it that the Traverse will be the cheapest of the three-row crossovers it shares a platform with, including the Buick Enclave (shown here), GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook. The Traverse will also help fill a hole left by the discontinuation of the Chevy TrailBlazer.
GM expects the Traverse to be among the best-selling of its new vehicles and plans to move between 80,000 and 100,000 in its first year. This would put it well ahead of sales for any of its cousins, which totaled 137,000 this past year. Because of the Traverse’s lower cost, however, the vehicle may end up being light on features.
Confirmation of the Traverse raises the next important questions: Where and when will the Traverse debut? The Chicago Auto Show now seems like the most obvious venue, although GM has yet to announce anything concrete.
