How Much Is the 2026 BMW X5?

As the current-generation BMW X5 rolls into its eighth year without a redesign, there are no major changes for 2026. One of the first luxury vehicles to emphasize the sport in “sport utility vehicle,” the 2026 X5 remains one of the best examples of the breed. Over the course of more than a quarter of a century, BMW’s mid-size SUV has evolved to offer a diverse lineup that includes inline-six-cylinder and V-8 engines, a plug-in hybrid with up to 40 miles of electric range, and the barnstorming 617-hp X5 M.

Release Date and Pricing

The 2026 BMW X5 is on sale now. Full pricing (including $1,450 destination charge) is as follows:

• sDrive40i: $69,750

Trim Levels and Safety Features

Standard safety features on every 2026 BMW X5 include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking; blind spot intervention; lane departure steering assist; automated parking; and front, rear and side parking sensors with automatic braking.

The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds semi-automated highway driving, and the Parking Assistant Professional Package upgrades the automated parking system so it can remember extended parking maneuvers at frequently visited locations and repeat them. It also includes a dashcam.

Other than the latter’s all-wheel drive, the sDrive40i and xDrive40i are identically equipped. Standard features include 20-inch wheels, adaptive dampers, LED exterior lighting, a panoramic moonroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and keyless entry and start. Inside are synthetic leather upholstery, power-adjustable and heated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Cabin tech consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and wireless phone charging. The X5 xDrive50e is largely the same, but it also includes an adaptive air suspension.

The X5 M60i gains a sport-tuned suspension with an M Sport differential and upgraded brakes, plus rear-wheel steering, a sport exhaust and black exterior trim. Inside, it adds ventilated front seats, a head-up display and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

Riding on staggered wheels — 21 inches up front and 22s out back — the X5 M Competition also gets a retuned AWD system, tweaked steering, and active anti-roll bars. Other additional equipment includes a power liftgate, premium leather upholstery, heated front-seat armrests, a heated steering wheel, four-zone automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera system and carbon-fiber interior trim.

Powertrain Specs and MPG

BMW offers a variety of powertrains in the X5, and not one of them is slow. The sDrive40i and xDrive are powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that makes 375 hp and a max of 398 pounds-feet of torque. Every X5 has an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the entry-level sDrive40i is the only X5 with rear-wheel drive; the rest include standard AWD (xDrive in BMW parlance). Both X5 40i’s return an EPA-rated 23/27/25 mpg city/highway/combined. BMW claims the rear-driver can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds and the xDrive40i can do it in 5.2.

In the PHEV X5 xDrive50e, the 3.0-liter inline-six is detuned slightly, but an electric motor integrated into the transmission contributes 194 hp and 280 pounds-feet of torque, elevating total output to 483 hp and 516 pounds-feet. The PHEV X5 has a 40-mile electric range and returns 22 mpg combined with the gas engine running.

The M60i xDrive and X5 M Competition both have a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8. In the M60i, it’s good for 523 hp and 553 pounds-feet. In the M, torque remains unchanged, but BMW massages the engine to produce another 94 hp, for a total of 617. The M60i is rated at 17/22/19 mpg and the X5 M at 13/18/15 mpg.
