The 2026 Chevrolet Trax small SUV carries over unchanged except for a price hike of $1,100. Even with the price hike, the entry-level Chevy makes for one of the most affordable new cars and still represents a great value. Chevy sticks with the winning formula, adding two new exterior colors but leaving the rest alone, for a starting price of $22,995 (all prices include a $1,395 destination fee).

What’s New?

Redesigned for 2024, the second-generation Trax outgrew its dated design with a sleek, almost wagon-like look without compromising interior space or the commanding view of the road favored by many SUV shoppers. Chevy stayed true to its intent as the most affordable vehicle in its lineup, and for 2026, the Trax can be had with a White Sands exterior coat on the top Activ and RS trims, while all but the Activ trim can be had in an Apex Red color.

Safety Features and Trim Levels

Chevy equips the base LS with loads of standard safety and convenience features, amounting to a great value. It rides on 17-inch steel wheels and comes with keyless entry and an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Wi-Fi. The front seats are manually adjustable.

Chevy’s standard suite of driver-assist systems, dubbed Chevy Safety Assist, includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure steering assist, a following distance indicator and automatic high beams. Also standard are a rear-seat reminder and Chevy’s Teen Driver feature that lets guardians or those who pay the bills limit functions such as speed and radio volume.

For $1,500 more, the 1RS adds more cosmetic upgrades such as black moldings around the windows, fenders and side mirrors, as well as a black grille insert. It rides on black 18-inch aluminum wheels and sports unique exterior trim. Added convenience features include heated front seats, a heated flat-bottom steering wheel and remote start.

The LT costs the same as the 1RS but includes more upgrades inside. It has 17-inch aluminum wheels, silver trim and upgraded LED daytime running lights. Inside, the LT upgrades to cloth upholstery with synthetic leather inserts, automatic climate control, an 8-inch instrument cluster display, an 11-inch touchscreen and six speakers.

The Activ and 2RS top the lineup and build off the LT and 1RS, respectively. The Activ wears different front- and rear-end styling and has distinct 18-inch black wheel designs. The interior has a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats covered in synthetic leather upholstery and a heated steering wheel.

The 2RS wears the black bow ties and other garnishes of the 1RS but rolls on black 19-inch wheels. It bundles most of the luxury and convenience features of the Activ.

Powertrain Specs and MPG

The Trax’s sole powertrain carries over for the 2026 model, and it only comes with front-wheel drive. A 137-horsepower, turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder generates 162 pounds-feet of torque and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

All-wheel drive is not an option, which helps keep the Trax on the efficient side of things. Chevy says the 2026 Trax has the same EPA rating of 28/32/30 mpg city/highway/combined as the 2025 model (official EPA estimates for the 2026 model are not yet available).
