Trim Levels and Safety Features
The 1500 lineup starts with the base Tradesman, which is Ram’s work truck trim. Buyers can option the Tradesman in either two- or four-wheel drive configurations with either an extended cab (called Quad Cab in Ram parlance) and 6-foot-4-inch bed or crew cab with either the 5-foot-7 or 6-foot-4 bed. Standard features include a trailer hitch, LED headlights, 8.4-inch touchscreen running Uconnect 5, a suite of driver safety aids and remote start.
Moving to the Express trim gets you standard 20-inch wheels, LED headlights and foglights, larger 12-inch displays for both the center screen and driver, adaptive cruise control, and body-color bumpers at the front and rear. The Express is also available with the same bed and cab configurations as the Tradesman.
The Big Horn (known as the Lone Star in Texas) is available with either a Quad Cab with the 5-foot-4 bed or a crew cab with either bed size. You also get slightly more cushier features like standard air suspension, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, chrome trim and nine-speaker audio.
The Warlock comes in one configuration: crew cab with a 5-foot-7 bed and standard 4WD. It’s also more rugged and off-road-ready, with standard Bilstein shocks at the front and rear, an inch-higher ride height, underbody skid plates, an electronic locking differential, and 18-inch wheels wrapped with 33-inch all-terrain tires. Getting all of those off-road goodies means you give up some features, such as the center touchscreen, which is shared with the base Tradesman.
Sitting above that is the Laramie, which comes as a crew cab in both 2WD and 4WD with either bed size. The Laramie gets five selectable drive modes for its 4WD system, air suspension, heated and cooled front seats, heated steering wheel and rear seats, and dual-zone climate control.
Next is the Rebel trim. Combining sporty looks with more off-road capability than the Warlock, it comes with Bilstein front and rear shocks, 9.7 inches of ground clearance with a 1-inch-higher ride height (the air suspension can give 2 extra inches of lift, bringing the total ground clearance to 10.7 inches), 33-inch all-terrain tires, electronic locking differential, unique hood sculpting and underbody skid plates.
Seen as a replacement for the TRX, the RHO is the 1500’s performance off-road trim. It gets a unique Bilstein shock system, high-speed electronic locking differential, front and rear tow hooks, underbody skid plates, 2-inch-higher ride height for 11.8 inches of ground clearance, full-time active transfer case, 35-inch all-terrain tires wrapped with 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and a Dana 60 rear axle. The RHO is only available as a crew cab with the short bed bed and standard 4WD.
Things turn back toward luxury with the Limited and Limited Longhorn. They both get air suspension; power running boards; real wood and leather trim in the interior; lots of chrome trim on the exterior; heated, cooled and massaging 12-way power front seats; heated and reclining rear seats; and a 19-speaker audio system. Both trims come standard with 4WD and are available with the crew cab with either bed size.
At the top of the 1500 lineup is the Tungsten. It gets 24-way power leather seats with heating, cooling and massaging, heated and cooled rear seats with 60/40-split folding, in-floor storage, a massive 14.4-inch center touchscreen, 23-speaker Klipsch audio, a dual-pane panoramic roof, 22-inch wheels, power rear tailgate and adaptive front LED lighting. The Tungsten also comes with standard 4WD and as a crew cab with the short bed.

Powertrain Specs and MPG
Ram surely annoyed loyalists when it dropped the Hemi V-8 from the 1500’s lineup, but anyone that was mad should be celebrating now as it has returned. That gives shoppers four engine choices overall, though those choices vary based on trim. Standard on the Tradesman, Express, Warlock and Big Horn is the 305-horsepower, 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6. For an extra $1,695, each of these trims can be optioned with the 420-hp, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter Hurricane six-cylinder.
If you want a Hemi V-8, it’s only available on three trims: Warlock, Limited and Limited Longhorn. You’ll only have to pay for it on the Warlock, where it’s $2,895; on the Limited and Limited Longhorn, it’s a no-cost option. The Hurricane six-cylinder comes standard on the Laramie and Rebel trims. The RHO, Limited, Limited Longhorn and Tungsten trim all come standard with a high-output version of the Hurricane six-cylinder that makes 540 hp.
EPA fuel-economy ratings vary based on trim and engine. The 3.6-liter-equipped 1500 sits at 20/25/22 mpg city/highway/combined with 2WD and 19/24/21 mpg with 4WD. The standard-output Hurricane gets ratings of 18/25/21 mpg (2WD) and 17/24/19 mpg (4WD). The high output Hurricane gets ratings of 15/21/17 mpg combined except for the RHO, which gets 15/14/16 mpg. Ram says the Hemi V-8 should get ratings of 16/20/18 mpg combined, but official EPA estimates will come at a later date.
