What Car Shoppers Need to Know

  • The 2027 Jeep Cherokee is a compact SUV with all-wheel drive and a standard hybrid powertrain.
  • The off-road-oriented Trailhawk trim level joins the lineup for 2027.
  • Pricing starts at $37,125 (including destination).

In 2026, the Jeep Cherokee returned from the second hiatus over a 53-year span larger, more upscale and more refined than the vehicle that wore the nameplate from model-year 2014-23. As a compact SUV, the Cherokee competes against bestsellers like the Chevrolet Equinox, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue and Toyota RAV4. In the new generation’s second year on sale, Jeep heralds the return of its off-road trim level and is diversifying the lineup with on-trend appearance packages.

What’s Changed for 2027?

Trailhawk is Jeep’s designation for the most capable off-roader within its product lines. New for 2027, the Cherokee Trailhawk rides on an off-road-tuned suspension with a 1-inch lift, a two-speed transfer case with a low range, a locking rear axle and 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Trimmed front and rear bumpers help increase the Trailhawk’s approach and departure angles, and steel skid plates protect critical underbody components like the front axle and fuel tank from damage when driving over harsh terrain. The Trailhawk models’ signature red tow hooks identify this Cherokee as something more serious than the rest of the lineup.

Also new for 2027 are the new Altitude variants, which join in the industry-wide trend of blackout packages. Both the Laredo Altitude and Limited Altitude feature black wheels, exterior trim and badging. The pricier Limited Altitude also gets a black roof.

Fuel Economy

Every 2027 Cherokee is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with hybrid assistance. Together with the electric motor, the four generates 210 horsepower and 230 pounds-feet of torque, which it routes through a continuously variable automatic transmission. AWD is also standard.

Interior and Off-Road Features

The 2027 Cherokee is pricier than most competitors, but the base trim level sets a strong foundation for the lineup. It rides on 17-inch wheels and features LED head- and taillights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated exterior mirrors, and keyless entry and start. Inside you’ll find cloth seats (manually adjustable up front), a tilt/telescoping steering column and dual-zone automatic climate control. Cabin tech consists of a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as six speakers.

The 2027 Cherokee also includes a generous list of standard safety technologies, including forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure steering assist, blind spot monitors, front and rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams and rear parking sensors with automatic braking.

The Cherokee Laredo builds on that with 18-inch wheels, LED foglights and remote start. Its cabin gains premium cloth upholstery, heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.

Step up to the Limited and you’ll also net a power liftgate, perforated synthetic leather upholstery, a power-adjustable passenger seat and a heated steering wheel. The Limited’s infotainment system is upgraded with Alexa Built-In and wireless phone charging.

In addition to the Trailhawk’s mechanical upgrades, it also includes all of the luxury and tech features from the Limited. To that list, it adds a hands-free power liftgate and memory settings for the driver’s seat and exterior mirrors.

At the top of the Cherokee lineup, the Overland forgoes the Trailhawk’s off-road equipment but adds 20-inch wheels, a dual-pane panoramic moonroof and Digital Key capability, which allows the owner to use a paired smartphone as a vehicle key and for remote monitoring. The range-topping Cherokee also boasts exclusive synthetic leather, navigation and a nine-speaker Alpine sound system. Its safety suite expands with the addition of standard front and side parking sensors, as well as road-sign recognition.

Versus the Competition

The 2027 Jeep Cherokee is more expensive than many competitors. While it does include a lot of standard features, the difference between its base price and those of key rivals means you can step up to a pricier trim level in other brands’ offerings and get similar equipment at an equal — or lower — price. Many competitors’ hybrid SUVs are also more efficient than the Jeep.

Model Price (With Destination Fee) City/Highway/Combined MPG Drivetrain
2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid LX $32,085 40/42/41 FWD
2026 Toyota RAV4 LE $33,495 47/40/43 FWD
2027 Subaru Forester Premium Hybrid $35,845 35/34/35* AWD
2027 Jeep Cherokee Base $37,125 39/35/37* 4WD
2027 Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid $37,580 43/36/40 FWD
