How Much Is the 2027 Lexus GX 550?
What Car Shoppers Need to Know
- The 2027 Lexus GX 550 is a luxury off-road SUV with full-time four-wheel drive.
- The GX is related to the Toyota Land Cruiser, but it’s more luxurious and more powerful.
- For 2027, the GX 550 is priced from $69,085 (all prices include destination).
The mid-size Toyota Land Cruiser SUV is the Camry of the desert, the default choice for buyers in harsh climates who need a vehicle that can go anywhere. The 2027 Lexus GX 550 shares its underpinnings with the Land Cruiser, but it gets more power and standard luxury gear for those who need a vehicle that can go anywhere but want to get there coddled in upscale comfort. The GX Premium and Luxury trim levels seat seven in three rows, with optional middle-row captain’s chairs reducing the headcount to six. The Overtrail trims, aimed at hardcore off-roaders, ditch the third row for more cargo area and are only available with a second-row bench seat.

What’s Changed for 2027?
There are no major changes to the GX 550 this year.
Fuel Economy
The GX shares its mechanical foundations with the Land Cruiser, but whereas the Land Cruiser is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder, the GX 550 packs a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 making 349 horsepower and 479 pounds-feet of torque. It is backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard full-time 4WD. The SUV’s manufacturer-estimated fuel economy, predictably, is considerably worse than the Land Cruiser’s 23 mpg combined.
| Powertrain | City MPG | Highway MPG | Combined MPG |
| 349-hp, twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6; 10-speed automatic transmission; full-time 4WD | 15 | 21 | 17 |
Interior Features
Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard on every 2027 GX 550. This suite of advanced driver-assist technologies includes forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-tracing assist and emergency steering assist. Blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors are not part of LSS+ 3.0 but are also standard.
The entry-level GX 550 Premium sets a high bar for standard equipment. It includes 20-inch wheels, LED headlights, a moonroof, a power liftgate, and keyless entry and starting. A locking limited-slip center differential endows even the base GX with sure-footed off-road traction. Inside, the Premium features synthetic leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, and ambient lighting. Cabin tech consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10-speaker sound system.
To that, the Premium+ adds a heated steering wheel, heated outboard second-row seats, adjustable ambient lighting and a wireless phone charger. It rides on black 20-inch wheels and also includes a 360-degree camera system and a hands-free power liftgate.
Upgrading to the Luxury trim nets buyers everything from the Premium+ plus genuine leather, massaging front seats with additional adjustability for the driver, and window shades and ventilated seats for second-row occupants. Here, 22-inch wheels are standard.
The Luxury+ adds adaptive dampers, a panoramic moonroof and powered deployable running boards on the outside, and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound system on the inside.
More than just an appearance package of the sort that is popular on compact SUVs, the GX 550 Overtrail packs some serious off-road gear. It starts with a 1-inch suspension lift and matte-gray 18-inch wheels wearing 33-inch all-terrain tires. A locking rear differential helps find traction on loose ground, and electronically disconnecting sway bars front and rear allow for greater suspension articulation off-road. Adaptive dampers help balance comfort on pavement and off, while driving modes for different sorts of off-road terrain help keep things under control when the surface gets loose.
The standard Overtrail otherwise largely parallels the base Premium trim, but it adds windshield-wiper de-icers, headlight washer nozzles, prewired auxiliary switches for aftermarket accessories and an onboard air compressor. The Overtrail+ rolls in all of the comforts and luxury features of the Luxury+ trim.
Versus the Competition
The GX 550’s powerful V-6 makes it quicker than many competitors, and its standard full-time 4WD grants it greater capability than most, but combining the two results in fuel economy lower than that of most other mid-size luxury SUVs and even some full-size family haulers.
