Hyundai announced today at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show that it’s launching an all-new electric vehicle subscription service dubbed Evolve+, a month-to-month subscription plan the automaker hopes will lure customers who want to drive an EV but don’t want to commit to buying or a long-term lease.
The plan includes 1,000 miles, insurance, maintenance, registration and roadside assistance. Hyundai says customers can place orders and renew via smartphone, but it’s also making the process easy for you to leave: The cancellation plan allows customers to cancel and opt out at any time, which differs from similar plans offered by many rivals that often force subscribers to be locked into the plan for a set period before they can cancel.
In order to subscribe to the EV program, customers need to download the Evolve+ app from Google Play or the Apple Store onto their smartphone and set up a new account. You can then search for a vehicle by price and ZIP code. After finding a car, you agree to a renewable monthly term and pay by credit card, which will also reserve the car. Finally, the customer arranges a pickup time at the dealership.
Pricing will be $699 a month for the Kona Electric and $899 a month for the Ioniq 5; no pricing has yet been announced for the forthcoming Ioniq 6. For now, Evolve+ is only available at select dealerships in six states, but Hyundai says it plans to add more states and dealerships to Evolve+ by the end of 2023.
