Look for Infiniti Infotainment Overhaul on 2020 Q50, Q60, QX50, QX80

It’s been a while since Infiniti overhauled its multimedia system, and the automaker announced big changes are afoot for 2020 with its InTouch system. Updates include Wi-Fi connectivity for more devices, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connection, faster processing times and the ability for over-the-air updates.

Like its predecessor, the updated system has a two-screen setup flanked by columns of climate-control buttons. The new version retains much of the old unit’s look, but it has fresh graphics and other features to make it more modern and competitive.

Infiniti says the new system will have quicker response times and be easier to use thanks to faster processing power, a more streamlined interface and other tweaks intended to boost usability and functionality — for example, a revised Bluetooth setup that should make pairing easier and faster. A new HD microphone should deliver better voice quality for phone calls and voice-command prompts, as well.

The big news for many users will likely be the system’s compatibility with smartphones. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality are now standard — finally — and up to seven devices will be able to connect to the internet with upgraded Wi-Fi hot spot connectivity. Another big highlight is that the system can be updated over the air when connected to the owner’s home Wi-Fi network, making it more convenient for owners to get the latest changes, including map and navigation info.

Lastly, the updated navigation system now offers detailed real-time traffic information, including rerouting based on live traffic conditions and turn-by-turn directions, as well as 3-D city views and satellite-view imagery.

The system will begin rolling out on many model-year 2020 vehicles, including the Q50, Q60, QX50 and flagship QX80.
