Ford’s large sedan is coming to China for the first time; the automaker unveiled an upscale version of the Taurus at the 2015 Shanghai auto show. Designed with Chinese customers in mind, Ford says the Taurus is a premium business sedan; it boasts much more elegant styling outside and a more passenger-focused interior than the U.S.-spec version.
Will this version make its way to our shores? It’s unclear, but Ford is hinting at the possibility, citing its global development strategy. “The Ford Taurus we’re introducing today shows the amazing strength and flexibility of our One Ford plan,” John Lawler, chairman and CEO of Ford China said in a statement. “It combines the best of our global product development and large-car expertise with a clear understanding of what Chinese customers in this segment want.”
Outside, the sedan wears a shield-like version of the brand’s trapezoidal five-bar grille bordered by sleeker LED-accented headlamps and daytime running lights. Inside, details are slim, but the Chinese-market Taurus has power-reclining seats in back with lumbar support and massage functionality. A rear-seat control panel pops down to allow passengers to control air conditioning and media options as well as make seat adjustments. Under the hood is a new twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6; check out the photo gallery below.
