Lexus Debuts First 3-Row EV, the TZ

What Car Shoppers Need to Know

  • Lexus’ third electric vehicle, the TZ, gets three rows of seating and standard all-wheel drive.
  • While no range estimates are confirmed, Lexus says the TZ should get 300 miles of driving range on certain trims when it goes on sale in late 2026.
  • The TZ’s exterior size is a little smaller than the TX three-row SUV, though it’s possible the interior might be roomier in some ways

Lexus is adding another EV to its lineup, but rather than go small or medium-size, Lexus is targeting families that want to ride around in luxurious all-electric comfort. So, if you’re wanting an EV that happens to have three-rows of seats and is a Lexus,  the all-new TZ will be it.

Lexus Isn’t Sharing Much

Lexus isn’t sharing too much information about charging or the powertrain of the TZ just yet, but it should be competitive. The TZ rides on Lexus parent Toyota’s TNGA platform, and the brand says it’ll be offered with two battery sizes: a 77.0- or 95.8-kilowatt-hour battery, the latter of which should be the one to deliver the 300 miles of driving range. Lexus says that range rating will be available on the Select trim.

The TZ will launch with a native North American Charging Standard port as well as charging and battery preconditioning modes. Lexus also placed the DC and AC charging ports side by side for easier charging in tight spaces. Unfortunately, we don’t have any information on power or acceleration, nor range for the smaller battery or charging times.

Lexus TZ Vs. TX Size

Despite looking like an electric version of the TX SUV, there are some slight dimensional differences between the two. The TZ’s 200.8-inch length is slightly shorter than the gas-only TX 350 (203.2 inches). The TZ is also slightly shorter in height than the TX at 67.1 inches compared to 70.1 inches for the TX. Both are the same width at 78.4 inches. Despite being shorter, the TZ’s 120.1-inch wheelbase is just about 4 inches longer than the TXs, which should pay off in interior room.

Dimension TZ (Inches) TX (Inches) Difference (Inches)
Length 200.8 203.2 2.4
Height 67.1 70.1 3.0
Width 78.3 78.4 0.1
Wheelbase 120.1 116.1 4.0

The TZ’s front fascia manages to keep Lexus’ signature “Predator” grille design without having an actual grille. The headlights feature signature L-shaped LED running lights, while around back, the L-shaped light design treatment is used on the taillamps with an LED light bar between them. Buyers will also get to choose between 20- and 22-inch wheel designs.

A Tech-Filled Interior

Lexus took a familiar but different approach with the interior of the TZ that uses sustainable materials. The dash trim is made of forged-bamboo fibers blended with resin; the dash, seats and doors get covered with a material Lexus calls Ultrasuede. Recycled aluminum is used on the roof rails and tonneau cover. Lexus also uses adhesive-free structures during manufacturing of the TZ to further lessen its environmental impact.

Upfront is a massive infotainment display that runs Lexus’ latest operating system. The system has a digital assistant that responds to “Hey Lexus” as well as EV-specific features such as routing and range maps. And of course, standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available.

A suite of driver safety aids will help keep drivers and passengers safe, including a precollision system with pedestrian detection, emergency steering assist and radar cruise control, among other safety features.

An expansive panoramic roof gives sky views for all three rows. The roof also doesn’t intrude on interior headroom by using a wire-driven system. Ambient lighting is used throughout the interior to set the mood and has six Japanese-inspired themes to choose from.

Second-row passengers get a center dual-tiered console that’s removable to allow for walk-through access to the third row. A 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound system is standard along with heated seats for all rows, while first- and second-row occupants get ventilated seats. Second-row passengers also get the chillest spot in the whole interior, with power ottomans that deploy from under the seats.

Pricing and On-Sale Date

Lexus says the 2027 TZ is set to arrive later in 2026. The brand isn’t talking pricing for the 2027 TZ just yet, but it said it will share more details about pricing and trim levels the closer we get to the TZ’s on-sale date.
